I am going to be painting my plastics black/yellow over spring break, but i have never seen someone take off a grille with an arg/shrock bumper on. Would i need to take off my bumper to do this? I feel like even if i did get the grille off i would scratch the fresh paint when i put it back on…Any thoughts?

last spring i tried to do that. on Gen 1.5s the grille mounts that go under the head light prevent you from sliding the grille up, and the the bull bars on our awesome bumpers prevent you from pulling it foward. if you look threw my build thread youll see. its a pain.

I believe the bottom of the grill doesn't come as far forward on the early first gens either. I know when I put the early bumper on my 2004 to drive up to RCL the whole bumper sat back underneath the bottom of my grill instead of just a bit forward like on the Xterras it was designed for.

Either way, if you have round lights it's way easier just to pull the bumper first.

i guess i will have to do that then, kind of sucks but id rather do it right the first time. Id probably just end up scratching the newly painted grill if i tried to get it out with the bumper in the way. thanks for the replies guys, looks like i have a longer than anticipated project ahead of me!
