NO where can I find a gen 2 exhaust thread. I can listen to crappy videos on Youtube all day long but I would like to hear the good word from the forum people. So let the sharing begin.

Just ordered a Flowmaster Super 44. Good ole faithful. I wanted to go something like Borla or something but I went with what I have had in the past.

I like this idea. I was looking for a thread like this in the past. I just got a Gibson catback set up and will be having custom piping run so when I get that done i'll post up the details and a sound clip

Alright, I'm actually changing my route slightly, I originally just had the Gibson offset/offset muffler and the tail pipe and was going to get custom pipes run from the flanges back to the muffler. I ended up calling Gibson though, they gave me a fantastic deal on their y-pipe (not like the stock y-pipe, this is a geat set up). This, even shipped, is costing me less than I was going to pay to get the custom piping run. So, just waiting for that to get here on a sunny day and I'll be installing this! I will do my best to get the best quality sound clip ever imaginable! lol.

On another note though, if anyone is considering going with Gibson products, I cannot say enough good things about these guys and their customer service! Their service beats any sevice that I have dealt with to date on any product in the Xterra world. On top of that, their stainless steel exhaust set up is warrantied for life and they back that up extremely well. Alright, I'll stop posting on here until I have that sound clip:)

I've got a glasspack with stock piping. Sounds pretty good, and I spent $60 (including labor to weld it on) on my exhaust... Not too shabby.

I too have this set up on my truck. The bend on the crossover pipe hangs down quite a bit and I had to make a 3 inch spacer on the rear of my Shrock skid to clear the pipe. This system made a big difference in how the truck performs. It sounds a lot like a stock Z-car exhaust.

Alright, here is a video of the new exhaust. This setup has a high flow so there is alot of raspiness if it jumps to about 3500-4000RPM. So if I really get on the gas from a stop, it sounds like the piping is going to fly out from under the truck lol. My plan is to add a nice quality resonator that wont hinder performance but will dampen the sound a little bit and hopefully take that "raspiness" away. This video doesnt do good justice as it makes the exhaust sound a little bit ricey but the sound is there, if you just imagine it a little more throaty that would be more accurate.

I'm looking for good advice on any type of good quality resonator or if someone has another suggestion for this setup that would work better for that raspiness, let me know.

Bumping this as I'm going to be buying a muffler with my tax refund.

I'm going to have the stock y pipe removed and replace it with a 2in1 out magnaflow muffler. So all I need to do is have the shop cut the stock y pipe and the run stainless tubing into the new muffler right? Not sure what size our tubing is but this seems to be the magnaflow of choice on the other forum.

So that would be 2.25" tube in and 2.5" out. Just making sure I have everything squared away before getting the muffler-never had exhaust work done before.

Oh I know that lol. If they can't figure out what size pipe it is then they need a new career path.

Wondered mainly just to call and let them know what I wanted to do before hand. Mainly so I could get a quote. 2.25 and 2.5" probably isn't that much different in price anyways.

I used cable driven ones on my firebird...if you have a motor that can really benefit from not having backpressure, go for it, mine dumped right at the end of my headers for when I was at the drag strip. for everyday, I had exhaust that was mostly stock...it kept the engine a bit more "under control" for in town driving...

Electric cutouts are cool, but, I don't really know that I'd waste the $$ to put em in on my X, for a multitude of reasons. The biggest being risk of fire. I don't want that extremely hot exhaust dumping directly from the engine onto the grasses and such that may be under me while I'm out wheeling.

Bumped this in case anyone wanted another sound clip. It's not great quality since its iPhone, and as always it sounds better in person.

2012 Pro-4X
Magnaflow 12580 muffler 2in1out
Cut restrictive stock y pipe and replaced with new pipe

Total cost about $130
Muffler was I think $95
My shop charged me $30 for cutting and welding, took him maybe 25min.

ok, question, does it get the "rice" sound at higher RPM's or does that muffler quell that?

To me, the rice sound comes from 4 cylinder civics and such with 4" tips. I'm not a rice fan at all and I like the sound of my X.

I know it's a video and it doesn't have great quality but the couple times I get on it I was around 4-5k rpm.

If you've ever heard a 350z with a muffler at high rpm it sounds a bit like that over 4k, but a little deeper (probably due to more displacement).

You can get magnaflow muffler 12580 for $80 + tax at advanced auto parts (online) and enter code TRT41 ($40 off in orders $100 or more) and have free shipping on all orders that are $75 or more. Dont know the expiration date of the code. Check retail me not for more coupons...

I'm running Doug Thorley long tube headers with secondary deletes with Magnaflow high flow cats (just to keep it from throwing codes) into a set of dynomax 2.5" pipes with a Magnaflow muffler and a 8' cherrybomb resonator. The whole thing sings like a champ.

Are the high flow cats direct replacement cats or universal cats? Can I replace the fronts with magnaflow universal high flow cats?
