So after driving over some pretty big uneven mounds, my friend and I noticed my brake light on.

. I'm at Taylor Park, Colorado nearest city is a drive away. It's not pulling to either side and I'm not sure what to look for with this. Brake Fluid level appears fine. What should I check? Where is everything located.

That light can also signal a problem with your actual brakes or ABS, not just to indicate that the parking brake (not an emergency brake; it won't stop a damn thing in an emergency) is set. Check your brake fluid, ABS wheel speed sensors, etc.

If you aren't sure what or where to check, my best suggestion is getting it towed. Don't take chances when it comes to brakes.

add a splash of fluid, and when you get a chance in the next couple of days check the pad thickness, you may be due for a brake job.

^^^^^Or slip a short section of tube over the bleed valve and just crack the seal on it, when you then compress the it the old brake fluid is pressed out.

Id say 2 possibilities. Low brake fluid. Or your E Brake cable has taken some abuse or rusty. Mines a little freaky aswell. May try spraying some PB blaster on all the linkages and moving parts around the e brake cable? But avoid getting the lube inside the rear brake drums obviously.

So after my whole debockle (sp?) with the lug nuts from Fry's Auto they changed my rotor because they had to bust a bolt taking my old rotor assembly off to change my lugs on that front right wheel. so I have a brand new rotor on the front right and I haven't changed the others since taking ownership in 2011. I'm thinking new pads and rotors should be due pretty soon. They put a Napa rotor on it. So my question is what brands should I get for pads and rotors? How much should I expect to spend. Not looking for the most expensive.

So when they changed your rotor did they damage a brake line? Unless they just never added new brake fluid. You dont just loose brake fluid. If its low then either your pads are low or your leaking. I would inspect each inner wheel for any oily residue. And master cylinder which can leak internally. Also with the rear drums you may see oily residue around it if the wheel cylinder is leaking.

Now as far as purchasing new brake parts... as far as pads and rotors go, some may disagree. Napa, orielys or what ever are just fine. I would go premium though as the cheapest of cheapest pads tend to make a lot of noise. Buying part store brands will save you money from OEM. I am not sure exact prices but you can call and get a quote for the prices/availability at any of the parts stores. Hope this little info helps man.

Also keep in mind.... since you ran on such low brake fluid there is a slight possibility of having air in your brake lines. Have you noticed a change in your brake pedal? If and when you do your brake job... id recommend. Flushing/ Bleeding the brake lines to insure no air is in the lines and you have fresh clean fluid.

never did notice a change in breaking power. I haven't checked yet but I have a feeling all of my wheels need new pads and my front needs a new rotor. Thanks for the info
