Custom Skid plates

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has done something like you see on the 2005-2013 Shrockworks Front bumper or the Calmini front bumpers in regards to the skid plates. Has anyone made their own skid plates and welded them on, or had someone weld some on? Like this is a great example of what I'd like to have: http://shrockworks.com/2005-2013-Xterra-Front-Winch-Bumper-pr-16153.html

I've purchased a basic RLCweldfab front bumper and just trying to look around and see if anyone has any ideas on what I might be able to do to put more protection underneath.

Personally I wouldnt do weld on skids b if you need to get under your truck and work on something it'll be a little hard. I know a few people on CX made their own with steel and even hdpe. The hardest part I think is getting the holes lined up haha. But it can't be too bad. Just use cardboard and map it out

Are you talking about just a front skid, like under the frame rails? I have a small front skid attached to my custom bumper...it is part of the bumper itself. It basically boxed in the two front frame mounts. I wouldn't do full skids welded on, but it is possible to weld up a skid to the bumper..and you can always remove the bumper if needed to. Under the front frame horns, there isn't much you need to access as far as repair or adjust, so it isn't a big deal.

I can take pics if you want.

Yea if you could that'd be great.

But yea, that was one thing I was wanting on my X, but then I saw Terrors build thread http://www.xterranation.org/showthread.php?4815-Xterror04-Build-Thread

And found out that his push bar was custom made and it was welded on.

Here are two quick pics I had on my computer...they show how the front bumper mounts to the frame horns (which are cut back some...) but you can get the idea of how the skid plate starts in front and goes down the bumper with a bend that goes along the frame horns. I took it all the way back to the start of the stock skid.

I can take some more pics tomorrow but I found these and thought they may be relevant...once again...not a "skid" in the traditional sense of being completely under the truck...but it does allow for a smooth transition for running over trees :) With a little work, you could tie it into the stock skid...or replace the stock skid too

Skids are not easy to make.. Easy conceptually but difficult getting things lined up. Especially since you're laying under the truck. I recently made a lower front skid and am now working on the bottom skids.. It would be so much easier with a lift. I'm constantly crawling under the truck and its annoying

Yeah I could see lining it up being a pain but for the gas tank skid you could just remove the stock one and there is the template. It's the others you have to figure out.
