Did an oil change.. Burned a 1/4 of a quart of oil and found out by the sweet taste of anti freeze that i'm leaking some near my thermostat. I guess tomorrow I'll tear it all down and take a look.

Its not that 90 deg hose is it? Thats a Mother F-er to change

This does not sound good, How many miles you got?
109k Did my timebelt 3 k ago didn't have the OEM gasket so made a paper one.. I think that just failed..

As said above, think its the gasket but it might be the bypass hose. (the hose your talking about)

I don't have much chatter during start up which is nice.
taking off all the pulleys etc is a good excuse to change the a/c pulley which bearings are toast.

FYI, the thermostat housing does not use a gasket. You are supposed to just use a copper-based sealant for water-contact surfaces. I only know that because I just replaced the thermostat in mine and no one carries a thermostat housing gasket, they all say use silicone.

What did you make a gasket for?

Hmmm.... Dani had a gasket when she did hers and Mike used one too, thats why I used one. So your saying no gasket at all near the thermostat?

Both part houses I went to (Autozone and Napa) said no gasket. One lady told me she would never in a million years put in a thermostat without a gasket. She ate her words once she looked it up and it said to use silicone, they didn't even have access to order one. Also, my Haynes manual says the same thing. When I took mine off, there were no remnants of a gasket, just silicone and I'm pretty sure that was the original thermostat I replaced.

I may be wrong, but if I am then so is Autozone, Napa and my Haynes manual.

I did? lol

I believe MIKE did.. :D

but then again I wonder if you used the silicone that I first used but yours just didn't leak..

I had initially used silicone to seal it up good but after 10 mins it was pouring out again. At this point we switched to a paper gasket in hopes for a better seal. I'm not doubting that silicone was the best choice but its all that was working for us at the time.

Yep, silicone for sure...I've changed them in the KA24E and the VG33E and neither required a gasket. Blew my mind, but it's true.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was shaking my finger at you or anything, and I would have done the same thing. You have to do what you have to do to get it going. I was able to get mine to seal up by putting the silicone on the housing and installing the bolts hand-tight. Let the silicone sit for about 30 minutes, then torque to spec. Also, try to use a Copper-based silicone as it is made for thermostat housing-type seals. I have not had any water leaks since I did it a week and a half ago. Best of luck to you!

Yeah i'm going to have to do it this weekend. I have a trip to York tomorrow/work so I need to remain all together for that, but when i get home to tear it all apart.. Looks like i'll order a new pulley and pick up some of that copper based silicone tonight.

Nope, I should though, but they haven't failed me yet so why bother replacing quite yet. I can deal with the sag for now. But no, stock t-bars.

Welp getting a new X this weekend. Luckily its built nearly identical as mine, save me the time of installing the same parts a second time.

Also you guys won't need a pictures or anything, you all are quite away of what it looks like. hahaha
