I know this subject has been hit on in every forums out there and I could not find a post about it on this one. So why don't we join the Masses.
I decided to test my CB's SWR since I worked on the mount due to redesigning my Jerry Can holders. In the below picture the antenna is mounted right between the Jerry cans at the top. Its a 4' firestick. Here are some things I tried. Before redesigning the mount my SWR was an average of 1.2 and after was 3.8. So that is when I relocated it to the current location.
both ends of meter together .4 ohms.
I tested the inner and out wire on the cable. No conductivity.
End of ground wire A to frame .4 ohms
End of ground wire B to frame .5 ohms
End of cb cable (ground part) to battery .6 ohms
one end of center CB cable to other end in mount .4 ohms
No loops in cable.
Ok first I tried without a ground to the frame 3.8swr
Then I hooked up the 4 gauge ground that I had to use last time 3.5swr
Then I hooked up a 12 gauge ground from battery to mount ground 3.5swr
Then I ran another 4 gauge ground to different location 3swr
Removed spring since it spun top vs bottom. 3.2swr
I really don't think its the ground. But last time I had very similar issues and it ended up being the ground. Any suggestions? Should I just say screw it and go with a NGP Antenna?
Another thing. It does not matter if I'm 2 feet from my garage or drive to the middle of a sugarcane field the swr only changes by .2
This is my mount
