Can I run these?

What I like to do with attempting to run lights off the factory wiring is to use the factory wiring for the trigger of a relay. Then I can run larger wiring to the battery direct. All the factory switching is kept intact, no extra switches necessary and you can run more than just the 2 lights off the same factory switch. ;)

Always thinking I am!

One more added plus is that if you put another switch, a low amperage switch, unlit, hidden, etc., in line with the factory trigger wire, you can actually send the trigger to a different relay for an entire other set of lights. This would be helpful if you wanted to run fog lights but not the other off road lights at the same time.

I know yours if different than mine, I dont by how much aside from the gens, but I know on the 2nd gens you could run 55 watt lights off the factory fog wiring, I'd love to do this for the sake of simplicity and not having to run more wires thru the firewall, and tap in to it once it gets in the cabin since i dont have the factory fog stalk, but I dont have a wiring schematic for that part in the cabin, so doing it without that would be rather difficult. But its a great idea.

Here's my question...would you change the wiring out of the current switch to a new one so that you could run your fogs at anytime? You know, instead of only being able to run them with low beams only. I HATE that.

If you use Cyclemut's idea of using the factory wiring to trigger a relay, then you don't have to run any wires through the firewall. You would have to buy and install a stalk with the fog lamp switch on it though.

Yeah i knew that, thats what i dont want to do, id want it on its own switch, cause a ottrattw switch is way cheaper than a factory fog stalk.

So Dave if you have the factory switch you might be good to go

That's fair enough. It was just a suggestion to avoid running wires through the firewall. Personally, I prefer to run my wires through a sealed gasket in a hole I drilled in the passenger footwell. Everything on the out side is loomed up up and protected, everything on the inside is covered by carpet, and I don't have to muck about on the overly crowded firewall.

I know what you mean, what i was saying was that if i could splice off of where it is on the stalk and run it to an external switch, that would be tops! Rather than picking up a stalk from nissan [END SEMI-THREAD JACK]

Im interested to see how you set this up. I want to run my Hella fogs off of the switch on the stalk but also a switch themselves so I can use them with out my low beams on (if thats possible)

Just use the factory switch to trigger the relay to the lights...which has a default to work with the low beams but go off if the highs are on....but install a cut off switch in the dash to allow manual overide.

:D

Can someone draw me a picture? Electrical is NOT my forte.

No, really...I'd like to understand this, but I REALLY don't get it. I'm with Dave on wanting to use the existing wiring/switch, but I'd like to run fogs w/ high beams, too.

If you put the select wire to the running lights instead of the low beams, it would work just fine.

Nismo, are you looking wiring a factory switch and therefore are wanting to re-route the factory pickup wire to run the fogs on both low and high beams? If so, I can look up the diagram and see about getting a write-up for you. But it will take a bit, if you're in a hurry, someone else may be able to pony up some pics or whatnot sooner.

That would be awesome! Nah, I'm not in any hurry. I wouldn't do it until May anyway lol.
