C1187 : diff Lock sensor and abs/VDC/diff lock lights on

A friend of mine in the east coast is having some issues with her 2012 P4X. She suddenly got a C1187 code with her VDC/ABS/Diff lock lights on all at once. No hard wheeling.m that she has told me. Unknown service date of last diff service ( for now. Still waiting for her to get back to me).

Besides a dirty diff fluid what else could cause this ? Any experiences ? How about a fix

Could be a bad diff lock controller, broken wire in the harness, bad connection...

Might want to look throughout FSM

could also be the switch in the diff. I'd try a drain and fill.

told her to do a drain and fill and go from there. se told me that she has never done a Diffluid change since it has about 90 000 kms on it.

Did fluid was milky and dirty as hell as per the person that did the change. They also noticed that the diff breather was missing.

So now we know that there was water that got in. What's the best way to fix this ? ( after replacing the diff breather) ?

I would start with replacing the breather nipple and extending it up into the tail light. That's really the main spot for water to get in.

Had mine lite up like that at about 6K miles!! Diff lock switch went bad. Per nissans instructions, the whole rear end was replaced!!! They do not service just the switch.

Thanks guys. Info sent to her. She already ordered the replacement nipple and I am sending her the how to for the diff breather extension
