I didn't see a general question section so I posted up here, If this is the wrong place sorry.

My wifes maxima has died twice on her In the last week, so I started to look around at the dealerships for a new vehicle for her. She has about a month and she is done with grad school and HOPEFULLY will be employed.

I have found a black 2005 Xterra Offroad 4x4 with 112000 on the clock, auto, tow, locking rear end and per carfax was a one owner vehicle looked to only been serviced at a dealerships through her life. They are asking $10,900.

Going to test drive tomorrow and was wondering what things do I need to look for?...I currently drive a 2000 xterra on 33s.

The plan is to get her this to drive around until she finds stable employment and then she gets another vehicle of her choosing (she will pay or that one) and I get he 2nd gen.

Maxima will be traded in for $4,500 towards the X.

Any help or comments appreciated

2005 had a few minor things... Smod is 2005-2010 which is a coolent mixed with tanny fluid. Be sure to check the dip stick.,, this generally gapped at the 100k mark.. It's a easy by pass..

Aside from the SMOD checking, look for general inside maintenance:
  • Does the rear cupholder shelf on the backside of the armrest work?
  • Do all the switches/knobs on the dash work?
  • Look under the X to see if any leaks occurred at the diffs, transmission, and inside the engine bay for oil leaks
  • Is the first aid kit included? And is it fully stocked?
  • Are the rear slide-in tie downs and mini nets for the rear hatch included?
  • Is there a full size spare under the hatch? And is the jack under the rear seats?
  • Does the handle of the wetbox still work?
  • Check the fluid colors inside the engine bay and watch the temps inside there.

That's all I can think of for now. I hope it helps!

Thanks for all the help, Its gonna be a no go. This X has SMOD and I brought it to there attention.....
