Or pop the upper ball joint out so you can swing the arm up and out of the way. Either way, it is a little annoying. More difficult than it's worth depending on your clearances

I installed some low profile bump stops on my 2000. I had it on a flat surface then had two dudes pull down on my bumper to allow enough space to drop in the new bump stops. The pain is trying to get the nuts screwed on. I lost both inside the frame...

Ericcris10sen, Bump stops are located on the front control arms to insure smooth articulation of the front suspension. If they were not there, it would be hitting metal to metal. And that would be a rough ride and possibly damaging to the control arms. So yes it is wise to always have bump stops.

The upper bumpstop is what hits when you are at full droop, so, flexing it down/jacking the rig up by the frame, etc, will mean NO room to replace it....not more room.

As pointed out, assuming its the UPPER stop, you need to jack the LCA up, so that you are in the full stuffage, not droop, position. THAT will maximize the room at the upper bumpstop.

I ran without any bump stops for a year+. Depending on your clearances, I never made contact metal to metal, though theoretically possible.

I tried counter weighting one side, jacking up one side, etc...and I ended up having to pop the upper ball joint out. Annoying but it was worth it to take the extra step.
