Battery shopping for my 2nd gen (ahem...Frontier)

It's time to replace the stock battery in my '12 fronty. The posts have got a lot of corrosion going on, and I'll be adding a winch before too long (plus all of the LEDs I use ~400watts or so). So, I've been thinking of sears platinum, or optima. Do any of you guys have much experience in this? I'm really wondering if I should go with the recommended size battery for my truck, but also wonder if I need to get something a bit beefier for the winch and other electronics. How big can I go, and it still fit? Thoughts? I'm hoping to go get one tomorrow.

I have the sears platinum. I love it, I actually have two of them main and secondary. Works great with everything I run and all. I got the Auto version. Now they only sell the "marine" version. I don't know if there is a difference or not. I forget what size I got. I believe it is a 34.

I bought a bigger Platinum last year when I fried all those alternators. Got a few extra CCAs based off of last winter's Arctic-weather-misdirection.

I've got an Optima Yellow Top and its working fine. I used my 40" 240w LED Light bar for almost 2hrs straight and it held up great.... But if I leave my light bar on for 10 mins + without the X running, the battery has to be jumped off and with it getting cold now... 30-40's, I noticed it struggled a little bit to start. So I'll be getting the battery checked.

I was recently in your situation and after all the searching, ended up getting the Diheard Platinum. I have only had it about a month, so can't say too much about it except the X starts noticeably easier (more CCA's). I've got a winch and should be installing lights over the winter.

Thanks for the input oh wise ones. I think I might do the biggest sears platinum I can fit in the truck. I'll head to sears here shortly. Thanks again!

The well ow tops are nice.. I had a red top but they think way to much of them.. Gel batteries are the way to go for off roading. We needed a new one for Kelly's a few months back so I went to advance and bought their gold top..

Works great and didn't break the bank

What advantages do gel cell offer over lead cell? The DHP is vibration resistant, and a spill proof sealed enclosure.

Yellow top it is. Sears couldn't get me a DHP with the right post configuration, and even said they have discontinued that battery fro my truck. Left and went to O'reilly's, got a yellow top deep cycle Optima, won't be at the store until tomorrow though, but no big deal. I didn't feel like messing with it today anyway.

Another question, the battery I have on order is a 620cca battery, but is deep cycle, and states in it's informational blurb that it is ideal for trucks with heavy accessory loads, and a winch. However, the winch I am looking at says it recommends a battery with 650cca minimum. I'm thinking that since this is a deep cycle, premium battery, that it should be fine. Just curious if anyone would suggest otherwise. I'm probably over thinking this, as I usually do.

you are over thinking it. With winches and any other accessory You always want the biggest battery you can get. What size battery did you end up ordering. A lot of people look at CCA to much. Getting a scale of amperage vs temperature is much more valuable to compare batteries.
