I can get a 94 pathy rear with an air locker cheap. My question is will it be a direct swap?

Direct no.

The axle shafts are smaller 31spline vs 33spline

The cases are different one has link mounts (pathfinder) the Xterra has leaf mounts.

The center sections are the same but the carriers are different again 31 spline carrier vs the 33 spline in the Xterra.

If you change the axle mounts to leaf perches. You can use a pathfinder axle in the xterra. However, you will have the weaker smaller 31 spline axles. Though then again I can't think of anyone who has snapped the smaller 31 spline shafts. Possibly you can take the arb center section and 31 spline axle shafts and fit them to your Xterra axle housing.

The only people that are snapping them are running either a doubler, or an Atlas with some huge tires and serious low gears in the transfer case.

You will also need to check the gearing in that diff,,,, Off the top of my head I dont remember what they are.

What kind of money are we talking about? and is it an ARB that is in there?

If the gearing is not right than it would not be worth it in my opinion. You would be better getting a ford 9, and rear gear it the way that you need to, and do a detroit in it.

Ok so the whole axle is out. The guy wants 350 for the asked with locker, compressor, and guts ( wiring and stuff, arb yes)

Do I am new to replacing gearing. So my next step if to figure out the gear.

I think I might wait till the solid axle swap and find matching locked axles.
