02 Nissan Xterra no crank

So as seen in my other 2 threads thus far here, I was given an 02 xterra 3.3 4x4, orignally thought it wouldn't crank wouldn't start due to a bad starter, well, I put a starter in it, and it won't crank, but if you put the key in run and jump across it will start right up.

I also dug these codes out of it as it had a cel on

P0600-
A/T Control Serial Communication Link Malfunction

and

p1605-
a/t communication error

I'm guessing this means it isn't getting a signal from the transmission, I checked the wiring, and it appears fine at just a glance, what are the chances my tcm is bad?

Replied to your other thread dont think these codes are related to the no crank issue. However you can check these out with a multimeter once you get the X running. Probably a bad harness or something simple.

Looks like from my quick glance the TCM has no control over the starting circuit.

Have you tried starting it in Neutral? It could be something as simple as a bad safety switch? It’s worth a shot and not going to cost you much to try

I only know of the one under the hood thats apparently the relay involved with the starter even if nissan doesn't call it that. it does not click

Did you check the relays and fuses that I posted in your other thread? There a multiple fuses due to the interlocks ie PNP/clutch switches and relays. If you need a I can post the diagram. Do you have a multimeter for testing or a test light? Just looking for 12V down the circuit.

Hopefully it's just a fuse but it could also be the interlock relay. If it is a harness issue you are not in for a good time.

I'm having the same problem. I have a 2001 Xterra I believe anyway the thing that throws off is that it has the 2002 fuse box under the hood. I got it from an auction I haven't had it running since I got it any help would be great.

  • – Check the car’s battery voltage. Insufficient battery power can cause sensors to stop reading, triggering a P0600 code.
  • – Visually inspect all sensors and wires. Look for gaps in the insulation, corroded contacts, or severed wires.
  • – Use a multimeter to check all parts of the wiring harness for continuity including all ground cables.

Hopefully just one of those large relays on the pass fender, otherwise download the free nissan manual and look at the ignition circuit I'd start with fuses and relays.
