HOLY ufck CHARTER IS AWFUL!

I've got ufcking work to do and all of a sudden the internet just takes a giant shiat.

Except that it's ufcking charter and they ufcking suck. ufcking bullshiat internet provider monopolies should be ufcking illegal. Good internet is like 3 miles from this ufcking house but nooooooooo charter gives the city a metric ufck-ton of money every year to keep other provider out. And then they in turn provide CRAP service to the residents of the city. Because, "what else are you going to do? Use dialup?" ufckers.

Sherman is that way. We have a cable provider internet, and they keep everyone but shiatty verizon locked out. 40miles south I am bathed in blazing fast fiber. One of the reasons I dont live in the sticks and drive back to work here. And our cable is ufcking terrible. the joke is, as soon as it clouds up and the service THINKS it MIGHT rain it fails. UGh.

That is exactly what I found. Sounds like my kinda place.

Staggering Irishman
18101 Preston Road
Dallas, TX 75252
(972) 248-1511

Staggering Irishman’s menu is one to be studied — they don’t serve just regular pub grub. The North Dallas neighborhood pub specializes in craft, domestic and imported ales, lagers and whiskies, plus chef-driven food. The menu has some thought-provoking named dishes like leprechaun legs that are hand-breaded fried edam cheese served with a spicy Diablo sauce and the Claddagh chicken platter of two grilled, marinated chicken breasts with mashed potatoes and green beans smothered in bacon, grilled onions and Swiss cheese. Staggering Irishman’s shepherd’s pie is ground lamb, veggies and gravy topped with mashed potatoes and cheese served with green beans. You can wash it down with the 32 different brews on tap or their impressive selection of whiskey.

I like all those! Just not all mixed in the same bowl. Ive eaten one, at an in Irish Pub while drinking. My memory of its deliciousness is hazy, but I do remember it having peas. And I despise peas.
Yeah. There's a few peas mixed in. And I despise them as well. But the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

My biggest issue is really the lack of competition. It costs less money for charter to pay the cities to keep verizon FiOS and Cox out (which again, are only 3 miles from where I live now) than it would for them to invest in the infrastructure to provide a quality product. 300Mbps down / 50Mbps up is completely possible on cable. But no. You get 60/5 that may or may not work bcause that's all that our infrastructure can handle. We have access to Verizon DSL, but that is maybe 5/1. And therefore unusable. My old house I had Verizon FiOS at 75/75 and routinely got over 90Mbps.

I'd kill a man for a fiber connection right about now.

GF lives in Austin.

Google Fiber.

Doesnt understand we dont have it like that up here. Not sure why in 2017 everyone in the world doesnt have this. Hell some of my coworkers that live in the country still have internet providers (hughes net) that limit data. I mean really? Is this 97?

Faaaaack Google fiber. That's the shiat right there. We need more places to follow Colorado and allow municipalities to create their own networks. There's a town (Longmont) that I've been eyeing. Municipal fiber. City utility. 1GB symmetrical service. $60/mo. That's ufcking beautiful.

Exactly. I know how dumb it sounds, but everytime I look at moving out of the city and into the country for land etc, I always check to see what the internet situation is. Gotta have it these days. Especially because sometimes I'll remote and I like that freedom.
