I have the stock one on still, but i need to drill a hole thru the engine/trans skid to secure it better since the holes are covered with the new skid. I feel like as long as theres something to keep mud and debris out of the engine compartment it'll be helpful, even tho its not that secure. I've been kicking around getting the X to RLC for a rear bumper and skid measurements but I'm hoping to close on a house next month... which is unforunately not too condusive for modding

I'm not sure about mounting an aftermarket radiator skid tho. If it just ties in to the engine/trans skid then to the front of the frame horns it could probably just share the bolts with the bumper, but I'm not sure

So little update, was driving the other Friday to drop my car off before going on a road trip for the weekend, turned into the parking lot and my power steering went out. I was able to get it to a parking spot and take off to Pennsylvania, even tho the X was weighing pretty heavy on the mind. Gave my dad a call and he ran out and gave it a once over. Turns out the idler pulley assembly broke off. Ok, sounds manageable. Get back from a good weekend, and decided to plan on driving the X back to my dad's house so we can diagnose it when we have time during the week. If only I would have made it that far...

It started running hot then overheated and died on the highway. Turns out the heater core was bad, so the coolant/water wouldn't get back into the engine. Long story short, ran a PVC pipe between the hoses to bypass the heater core long enough to get it to the dealership, and that's where the fun begins. They do the pulley fine, but the heater core (and hoses) are on national back order. No big deal, just gonna swap it with an aftermarket one. Nope, doesn't come with the hoses so the X has been at the dealership for a week and is waiting on the hoses to be manufactured... No eta on when any of this will be done

So for last week I was driving the rental mazda 3, not bad but definitely wanted the X back. And to add even more insult to injury if you will, rocking a 1999 minivan to avoid paying for a rental (due to the lovely unknown eta) :D

I've never heard of a heater core "going bad", just breaking hoses off after a body lift.

I know right, same here. But I know the hoses worked (and were still connected to the core when it died) as we bypassed the core and that kept the engine cool enough to at least get it to the dealership. Not too thrilled about it but hopefully I can get it back before the 19th when I'm planning on hitting up Coal Creek. We'll see what happens and I'll keep you guys in the loop

5/8 Update: the parts SHOULD be received and installed by the 18th, and that is the day I was planning on heading down to CC. Everyone keep your fingers crossed and I'll see you down there

Pics from Coal Creek, pretty good day of wheeling. I'll be in Nashville during the Spring Fling, but I won't be able to do any wheeling as I've got an ultimate frisbee tournament both Saturday and Sunday

looks like fun!! so how do u score??

You get a point whenever you catch the disc in the end zone, it's similar to football in the size of the playing field but you just can't run with it at all. So you catch it outside the endzone and find an open team mate in the end zone and throw them the disc for a score!!!! WOOO!

Not many updates as of late, but in less than a month the X will finally have a garage of it's own! Closing on a house in Dayton on the 4th of September and I can't wait to get into it:

As far as the X goes, recently changed the oil and filter and went synthetic so we'll see if I notice any differences

Congrats!!!! Really nice looking house!

Thanks man! I'm pumped to get moved in!

Nice house... I need to get to Greenville for some maid rites soon :)

For sure. Also, there is new brewery in Kettering and one down in the Oregon District. I grew up in Kettering so I'm thrilled about that one. Dayton Beer Company is something you should definitely check out the next time you make it out this way

Tiny not even update. Found another climbing place in Columbus and my buddy snapped a shot of the X while we pulling in. So I figured I'd share since I haven't done much with her lately:

Very nice build thread and well documented. One thing I noticed though, you still had the stock hook on the front have you ever hit that on rocks where you wheel?

replaced the passenger valve gasket cover! yay, huge update I know right? was leaking oil on that side and it was burning and smoking pretty good on occasion. Hopefully no more of that

Dave, when you did your's, was one of the heater lines held on by 'normal' worm clamps? I had one like that that took a 1/4" socket > U > 12" extension to get it undone.

Oil is changed. Splash guards are touched up (were falling apart a little), and the X is being prepped for another trip to Big Rock on Friday

Went to Big Rock today and had a pretty good day of wheeling with Saks. 3 of 4 bolts ripped out from the front skid so that was dragging by the end of the day, dented my driver rear door, and jammed up the driver fender pretty good. So a little more carnage than normal, but still a good day (not working, so yay!)

Shot before this pretty slick "waterfall" and the last view of the left side before the carnage began

I also apologize for the quality of the pics.... left behind the video camera and the DSLR, so crappy cell phones shots it is!

Looking back at the "waterfall":

So if you look at the fender and the rear door, you can see where a tree tried to help me around a narrow turn on a slick trail:

And this gives you a lovely view of the skid plate hanging on, still had 2 bolts at this point, but not for long:

Aaaand made it back home to contemplate what to do with 'er next:
