I say if the individual whose tools were stolen can wait, to wait a couple extra weeks, and let everyone donate that wants to.

(Or, cut it off earlier and if anybody wants to donate to a good cause, I'm sure we have other people who've had expensive stuff stolen from their vehicles lately too)

IMO...Dave's noble goal was a quick collection to get Stephen Q. (longtime contributor to the Xterra community) on his feet with some great tools following his untimely loss.

Per his feedback (SQB's) maybe just shoot him the existing dough and let him decide.

That way things aren't confused, drawn out, and XN doesn't become a donation/charity conduit.

(Oh, and definitely send some XN stickers along for the ride).

I am currently in no hurry to purchase anything. I am working like crazy right now and I have a trip to Africa for work during most of September. What ever you guys would like to do is ok with me. Like, I said I lost over 1K worth of tools which I pieced together over an 8 year period, and I can't help myself or others until I put the kit back together. But, since I can't work on my truck until later September, I am not rushing out to the door to purchase anything right now. I am extremely grateful and overwhelmed by the selflessness and generosity demonstrated thus far.

Well, apparently I missed this thread! If you are still taking donations, I can donate some money, too.

That's fine with me. I'd like to think if the same happened to me that the X community would step it up and do the same. So, more money = more tools = I'll still give to help...just have to wait till payday since I'm poor.

I'd chip in too if I wasn't having to replace my pistol...

Totally missed out on this thread. Glad to see everyone jumped in so quick to help someone out though. Makes me hate the human race just a little bit less.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped me get back what was stolen from me. With your generosity and the small amount I got from insurance, I was able to rebuild my tool collection! I also saved by traveling to Delaware which is tax free state and using my Craftsman Club card! I can not truely express my gratitude and humbleness towards your help. You are all in my debt and my thanks!

I was able to afford a Craftsman 308 piece mechanics tool set and some other things that were stolen from. Also, the sockets, extensions, adapters are in the canvas bags. There is a lot there even though you can't see it!

I am glad that you got enough stuff to get you started again. I dont know what I would do if all of my tools were stolen. Sadly for a modern thief with a little motivation or money there are too many ways to get into a car without setting off an alarm. Somebody came through our neighborhood a couple years ago and got into about 10 different cars, all of them were locked. It was about 3am and due to the fact I never sleep (insomnia isnt always bad) I was still awake and heard a car door. I got up flipped on the lights and walked outside but didnt see anything. The next morning I found a bunch of stuff laying outside my car on the ground. I didnt see where anything was missing and didnt worry about it until later that afternoon when I talked to my neighbor and he said somebody had been in both of his cars. We talked to another neighbor who found a couple of things missing from his car. The best the cops figured is when I got up and turned on my outside lights they ran off because nobody past my house was broken into, and only 1 out of 3 of my cars had been gone through. The thieves picked the wrong place to rob cars though. the only stuff found missing from all the cars was a few dollars in change a knife and a hat and some mail. all my neighbors are older people and dont have electronics and such in there cars. I got lucky I heard something because I had a few hundred dollar in tools and my laptop in my truck. Luckily the laptop was under a crap load of stuff in the passengers floorboard or they could have grabbed it and ran.
