Well to sum it up. I am newly single and this means hopefully more time with me and my X. I get two weeks of vacation and one of them is going to be spent at WENT unless a wedding(not mine) gets in the way. And the other one I want to try a expedition type of vacation. The biggest problem I have is I live a long days drive from anything. After doing some research I cam across Sam's website
http://www.transamtrail.com/

Most of you probably heard about this. But what I did not know was that he has discovered 3 other routes that are shorter.

Shadow of the Rockies: This is about a week long trip from the Mexican boarder in Texas all the way up to Colorado. Which I would love to do but its a little long for just one week off and having to travel over (1 day) and back (2 days).

Mississippi Hill Country: This is a circular trip that is 2 days north and then south. Each direction takes a different route.

Lake Hill Motors:
This is also a circular loop that goes east to west then back east. Its a two day adventure.

After talking to Sam who seems like a really great guy. I guess you can combine the Mississippi Hill Country Trail with the Lake Hill Motors Trail. This will create about a 4 day journey and you will not have to do the same route more then once. I have not decided yet if I'm going to do this or not but I am really going to start planning for it for the end of summer trip. He said he could also send me the GPS map. Which I would prefer over the roll maps.

Now all I need to do is plan this trip, figure out when, and finish getting anything and installing anything on my vehicle I would like.

If you have any ideas or suggestions let me know.

I did the Mississippi portion of the TAT and loved it. Sam really is a great and helpful guy, and it's worth every penny for his products. I can't wait to see what you choose to do!

After talking to Sam again and getting the start and ending city of each route. I think I'm going to do the 4 day trek in Mississippi. It should work out perfectly for a 1 week vacation got time to travel there pack before and travel home. (I originally thought it was 6 days but I corrected the first post) Now time to figure out if I am camping it or hotels. I would prefer to camp due to cost and hell if your going to be traveling this way a hotel is kinda cheating.

The Arkansas Overland Rally

That looks awsome, But without a team and not knowing the area. I will admit it I would be scared of death. I don't like venturing out on my own. I have a very capable machine but all it takes is something breaking without cell phone reception and you are in deep ****.

Sweet! I would love to go out on a trip like that. If I was getting better mpgs, I'd be all over this.

What type of MPG are you getting? At these slow driving speed I don't see going through more then a tank of gas a day. But I will have my reserves full just in case.

Did you do the whole Tat? or just the Mississippi portion? I think it would be cool to do that TAT one or two states a year for those of us who can't take 3 months off. I just have to remember to slow down and take pictures. I have a horrible habit of trying to get to the end vs enjoying the path on the way. Hopefully with 4 days of driving and 7 days off I will have a full extra day to slow down if needed.

I did the first three states (Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas) with the plans for the next three early summer of 2015 (my most esteemed navigator will be deployed). I camped up North off a logging road, but I'll admit that camping with a truck, it's not easy to find "open" land (in my opinion) through Mississippi. We only camped once (the plan was the whole time) and hoteled it the rest of the time. Also, I went through the day after some hefty tornadoes and storms, and there were multiple times that we went 4 Low for a mile or two at a time. The logging roads were a thick clay slurry. I just went with my truck, and my friend who was the navigator (much needed). I had a winch but I never needed it, came close a few times though.
