Couple days of running the 288a on kero and it's doing great.

I started on my 242C but the fount is full of some kinda crap. Got it soaking full of Mean Green so in a bit, I'll hobble out and give it a shake and refill.

It may wind up just being parts if there's too much damage

Not for a long time. OCP has a painted 242 fount. Gonna check the rest of the parts out and probably order it.
Cool. I was gonna say, I've picked up some good parts for next to nothing, some for free99, by posting a WTB or ISO add in their classifieds.

They should be super simple. Especially the E. They are killer. I want it if you don't. I'll take the 275 "Turd" as well....
I would likely sell them to you. As you can see, I don't do anything with them. I got the "turd" to match my bus. I "restored" a coleman stove, painted it brown, had this lantern, brown coleman cooler and water jug that all went with me when I was camping/hiking. I still have all of it, I just never use it.

I realized I hate actually using vintage camping stuff when I couldn't get the lantern to light once, and got modern stuff instead. Haha

I am still a sucker for vintage coleman coolers though. I have several.

Test Drive
Yes- lamp worked with calcium carbide in 'chunk' form, available on the internet. Carbide in the bottom, water in the top. Valve feeds water slowly to the carbide, which produces acetylene gas, which is ignited by the sparker on the reflector. In my experience, they would go for three hours on a charge of carbide. When I was caving, we'd carry extra bottoms charged with carbide and sealed with a lid for quick changes. Worked beautifully unless the valve malfunctioned and all the water went into the carbide at once!

They also made hand lanterns.

I lucked into this one. Still has the original late 50s Pyrex globe. You have to modify a Coleman 220 generator to work on it though. No AGM gennies since the 60s. *sad*

Got one! RL-3, late 40's early 50's mfg, should clean up nicely!View attachment 32159
Was having bad flare-ups no matter what i tried. Had to tear it down and clean cobwebs out of the airtube/mixing chamber and scrape out the gunk obstructing the burner tube that I couldn't see from the outside. Now she runs like a champ and is LOUD like a Milspec!20240124_054115.jpgI'll clean the glass here in a sec..

I plan to fix/repair/rebuild the brown one, one day, but the green one is extra. Where is the best place to get rebuild parts?
