I'm into lanterns and stoves. Lets see what everyone is using!

I'm cleaning up this June 1967 Coleman 220F right now which I picked up at a garage sale for next to nothing.

Gem Blue Flame by American Stove Co. Circa 1920-40. Can't find much on these other than parts are obsolete and they're not worth planting flowers in but I thought it was cool enough to save from the scrap pile. It's a gravity fed kerosene burner. Neat! 20230815_174047.jpg20230815_174057.jpg20230815_174109.jpg20230815_174140.jpg20230815_174202.jpg20230815_174241.jpg20230815_174257.jpg20230815_174305.jpg20230815_111049.jpg

Think it'll run?
I'm afraid. I can't find anything about it.

I need the old railroad guy to tell me about it. The guy who Pawn Stars & that restoration show uses..

I've thought about cleaning it up and filling it with fuel but it'd be a mess to recover what I didn't burn and that's if everything works as planned.

Any recs for a good reliable low maintenance (oil, or not sure what all is even out there) lantern that could be pulled out any time the power is out? Asking because power is currently out, and while all my Ryobi and Duracell lights are working fine it’s possible that one day they wouldn’t.

Well, the K1 kerosene lanterns that would be safer to burn indoors in my experience are not low maintenance and usually finicky.

For economics, easy 1-2 setup and quick lighting I grab a propane lantern. The ones where you screw the small 1lb bottle to the bottom turn the dial and viola, there's light! Not safe for indoor use though.

An Aladdin mantle style wick lantern puts out a LOT of light and is a classic design that you can incorporate into decorating to appease the Mrs.

I went to a Marketplace pick yesterday to score a cpl 200a's for tinkering and the guy just kept pulling stuff out of his shed. I tried making an offer on a cpl and he went back in the shed and handed me a box full of wick burners and parts. He said if his wife saw them again they'd all end up in the trash so if I wanted anything, I had to take everything.

I didn't have a signal and wasn't sure what I was looking at but after getting to the house I realized one of the lanterns wasn't a Coleman but a 1944 Akron 133 Milspec with an uncracked brass fount! Project time!

I ended up with a 220F in great shape, the Akron 133, 2 200a's, 5 wickies, misc parts and a Coleman catalytic heater. Two original globes to boot..1000003188.jpg1000003192.jpg1000003191.jpg1000003194.jpg1000003199.jpg1000003202.jpg

Picked this up from a storage unit clean out. Asked if they had any lanterns and viola! A Coleman 242C made 5/1950 surfaced. It has replacement glass from the 60's in it but the rest looks original and pretty clean once it gets a bath. 1000003220.jpg1000003222.jpg1000003221.jpg1000003224.jpg

Gave Ma a Coleman 200A bday lantern, Sept of '54, for her bday. She sent me this pic of her sitting on the back porch the next morning watching the wildlife. I threw on an amber globe to help with the bugs. 20230918_055555.jpg

Picked up a pair of 220Fs and a 242C yesterday! Really stoked for the new single!
Right on!
I've got a 242C on the bench right now that's got something foreign in the tank I'm trying to figure out how to get out. I really don't wanna have to boil it out but the BB dance and denatured didn't work..20230924_080548.jpg

Oh hell.. I was on marketplace, again. Ended up buying a guy's whole collection cause he didn't want to move it across the country. Awesome deal was made on the lot and I think a cpl pieces will pay for it all. I don't know where to put all this shiat!

Green 200A, AGM Speedikook single burner, AGM dbl mantle and a nice metal case was all I wanted but..price was right.20231005_162129.jpg20231005_160817.jpg20231005_160807.jpg

Well damn. The only good thing about this deal was a green 200a. Both the AGM founts are cracked. Couldn't see it before simple greening. 20231005_222535.jpg

Got this one going after a few flushes of muriatic acid through the tank to clear out the bad gummed up gas..

Bought in a group purchase and it ended up being a buddies lantern he'd painted and sold years ago. Small world.20231031_183542.jpg

Gonna build a Frankie?
Just ordered a couple pieces from OCP. Gonna try something with one of my various 288as.
I just got an email from IPE and it's only 60 bucks to prep and re porcelain a 228 vent in blue. That's with the white underside coating.

I'm stoked. I have a lantern I'd like to do up for my Pops but I have until Mar to maybe find his bday 228, a 3/63.

Put kerosene in my beater 288a tonight. Used the preheat cup I've had on my kero converted 200a and a stock 288a generator.

The 288a and 286a use the same generator. It's slightly oversize for a 286a and slightly undersized for a 288a so it works OK for kerosene with a 288a.

I had some water in the tank, not sure if it was from my kerosene can or condensation in my 288a fount, but I had to rinse the fount out to get it to run. Then I needed to replace a mantle so I swapped the old Coleman #21s for two new Peerless 2C-HG mantles and WOW, this thing is BRIGHT.
