you can use the mini gatlings and then attach the angel eye to the OUTSIDE of the shroud. like this:

or even use the XD led angel eyes from TRS. these things are frickin BRIGHT and look way better than ccfl's. the only problem w/ them is the greenish-yellow tinge when off

source page here:
you should join. there are some REALLY cool installs on there and all of the info you will ever need for HID's

I really like the gattling gun shroud but would it fit inside of my 2001 nissan xterra housing? everyone on my forum has used the mini gattling gun but no one can give me an answer on if the full size will fit or not.

-------------------------------------------------

Hey Cameron,

Thanks for the inquiry! The Gatling Gun shroud should definitely be able to fit your housing with some trimming on the top and bottom at most. Otherwise it will fill the area and look great.

Thanks Cameron!

Andrew @ TRS

--------------------------------------------

Andrew,

What do you mean some trimming? I definitely don't want to break the shroud! Haha

----------------------------------------------

Hi Cameron,

The shrouds are chrome-dipped plastic, so to trim them, you can use a dremel cutoff wheel and sanding drum to make any small cutting. This trimming is actually completely normal with retrofits.

----------------------------

Okay so my question to All of You is the full size gattling gun shroud really worth it. I have decided to go the way of halos I figure if I don't like them I can always just take them off. Should I do the full gattling gun and worry about the "trimming" (I really don't want to trim them because I am afraid I might end up making them not symetrical in some way or just make them look like crap) or should I go with the mini gats and put the led ring on it?

Go full would be neat to see a headlight with some fill to it. Sure you might have to cut it but it looks simple just cut and sand a little at a time. If I had the money to drop on decor at the time of my install. I would of went with a larger shroud to be more original and one off.

Yea no trimming with the minis. Only thing I trimmed was a small ring off the back of the headlight so I cold use the adapter plates that come with it and the ring used to bolt the projector in.

I just don't wanna make the shrouds look crappy by "trimming" them

Okay I've psyched myself out enough. I'm ordering tonight as of right now I am going with the minis because although I'd love to be the Guinea pig for full size gats I don't have that expendable income to take the risk of making them look crappy or them not fitting just so. So unless anyone wants to chime in that is what I am ordering. I am also going with the led halos and if I don't like them I will just not install them and make some tight coasters or something lol. (They will be installed, but those would be tight coasters)

I definitely following this.I have HID capsules in the OEM reflectors, and the beam is so unfocused that the local constabulary wants to discuss my beam pattern with me every time they see it.

Typically, they object to it in a way that makes it quite clear that they want me to change it...as in NOW.

I have 55 watt HIDs which are pretty bright.

Mine are 5k, which is very white w/o being bluish.

Yellower is actually better in foul weather...but the light from the bluer lights is almost invisible on wet pavement, etc....and are worthless if foggy, etc....so for me ~ 5k is the Kº ceiling.

The OEM lamps suck, so I do want to upgrade to something potentially legal.

:D

they typically do not recommend that you run 50-55w ballasts in the the mini morimoto projectors. It can cause the chrome finish on the inside to bubble off. this is direct from TRS themselves.

I am running morimoto 35w

i think you are going to like them! the 35w are plenty bright in that size projector. i can't wait to get mine in. I just got a computer power supply so i can bench run the hid's in the housing before sealing them up. I want to get all of the off-gasses out so the lenses don't fog. my work bench looks like a bomb hit it right now.

You can run it so its hot but not sealed, so the heat drives off the fumes and water vapor, etc...and or flush it with dried nitrogen gas, etc.

So I should power them before I install

yeah, i'd recommend it. I ran mine for a few hours friday night and they put out a pretty good beam with a nice cutoff.

The Retrofit has begun. Halos are in my state may be delivered today hopefully. I leave again for the lake tomorrow so if they arrive tomorrow I won't be able to complete install until Thursday night. :( But I have the lights apart and painted black. The only concern currently is if I need to do trimming and if so how much. Question to projector retrofit gurus: how did your shroud sit? flush to the back of the housing or what?cause the shrouds are a flat back and the housing has a rounded back so how did they sit?

F%$# I got some of the sealant on the lens so I figured I would just clean it off. It wasn't coming off with household cleaners so I went into my garage and got some goof-off which ruined the lens..... I am an idiot, but now how do I get just a new lens!?

oh snap! sorry, pretty much the only way to get a new lense is to just get a whole new housing. check ebay.
