Didn't know there was a thread for this! I just watched the whole series over the last few days. They're awesome. I love the cinematography and the trucks and everything.

Who's in to plan an overland trip like that? ;) THAT'S what my X is going to be built for. Granted, I'll need an extended range gas tank...that 200-250 miles per fill up would get me nowhere fast.

Yea, 250 miles wouldn't get anyone far. A custom one would def have to be made. And you would have to have a fat wallet for this particular trip... gas price was ridiculous.

Over the last year I've been trying to figure out a 3 year plan. One big issue is that for the trip I want to do it would be 6k in gas alone.

I'm trying to remember the rough route they took. Does anyone remember? If anyone watches a marathon of it I think it would be interesting to put into google maps.

I really enjoy overlanding. I have a small trip later this year through Utah. Trying to get some more people interested in some of the bigger trips.

i'm planning a small 4 day one this year. As out west is to far way. But next year I get an extra week of vacation. So I plan on doing a bigger trip. Then The year after I'm truly considering quitting my job sell everything and go on an adventure of a lifetime.

That seems to be the way to do it. Starting small is the way to go. Gotta figure out all the details before a big trip.

You are correct in this assumption! A few years ago I did a small one in Maine. Several things in my life caused me to have to put a lot on the back burner (Layoff, rough break up, another layoff, school). But now that I have a great job again and I have been able to build up my X to where it needs to be to do an extended trip. I need a few more things for the X and a few more pieces of gear and I'm set. Gonna be doing an 8 to 10 day trip in Northern Maine.

The short trip I did really helped identify strengths and weaknesses for longer trips. Granted each trip is a dynamic event, with the small ones it's easy to figure out where your gaps are and how to correct them.
