More buzz about the Xterra in the news today. Yahoo did a featurete on SUVs that are coming and the Nissan Xterra was speculated to make an appearance late 2013 as a 2014 model. It also speculated a diesel engine, direct injection, or turbocharging to remedy fuel consumption issues.

I know for a fact that direct injection won't be in the Nissan lineup for a couple of years. We just did an article on the DI Infiniti 5.6 and Infiniti won't let Nissan have it for a couple of years. Even then, it will be limited to the big guys, Titan and possibly Maxima (obviously not a V8 option there).

And Nissan is still in discussions with folks about the diesel emissions. When they get that all figured out, Nissan will go knee deep in the diesel options. Same as Toyota, Ford, Chevy and Dodge. They're all waiting for gubment BS to subside.

only if diesel stayed the same price it is here i would. it finally became the same price as gas. i just sold my diesel for the exact reason of it being 50cents more here than unleaded. :( i'd be the first to stack my xterra though if they did come with one :D

Well the truck line is about to move... This is really sad to the Middle Tennessee people.. The Smyrna plant was opened in the 80s for the trucks and Sentra..
2013 Xterra's will be made in Canton MS after the August shut down..

I think they would have released information on out by now if anything decent was going to happen. It's a little late for releasing info on a 2013 redesign.

When I left Nissan in march..
I was told the Xterra and fronty will be the same.. They will be stamping the bodies in tn and building them in MS.

Last i read from Nissan is they weren't gonna announce anything official until January. But i think something will get leaked before then.

I figured once that the Detroit auto show would be the place you would see the new trucks.. Even if they start building the new Xterra (plants are on shut down for two weeks) it could be a new 2013 model or even if the are running trials right now that would put them as starting the line in January.

And if they release them by late spring they could be badged a 2014 Nissan Xterra

I didn't figure...
I was told at the plant by a engineer that it would be the same Xterra... I dont expect to see a Gen 3 till the end of 2013 right now...
Too me it looks like Nissan would like to get Canton rolling with the SUV.. Then will start stamping its own Xterra with a Gen 3...

If it makes it to MY13. Dad may have to go to Canton to help them set up down there again. He went down when it first opened, lived there for like 6 months.

I wouldn't fret the appearance too much. I think I read something somewhere about an electric NV coming soon
