Sweet. Psyched to know for sure that she'll live on, especially with the news that Toyota is ending the FJ Cruiser.

My hope is that with the Pathfinder pretty much giving up the path and going fully for the pavement luxury market, they won't feel the need to add a bunch of useless luxury stuff to the Xterra and will focus on the go anywhere do anything functional aspect. I like my power windows and a/c but would trade either, or likely both for a rear locker. Heated and cooled seats and other modern luxury features are nice but I'll take off road ability over all that any day.

^^Very true. There's a 90's Pathfinder in our parking lot, parking next to it once I noticed that the Xterra is bigger all the way around. Pathfinder used to be smaller.

I miss my Hardbody for wheeling...but I don't miss my Pathfinder...sat too low (even for a 4x4), had this gobble-awful tan interior...it was a tank, though. Still running after 215k..

I ask any of the Plant techs when I see them and this is what I learned today:

I talked to a guy to day at the plant that said Nissans goal right now is to get the new Altima, Pathfinder and Infinity rolling... We start the infinity in a few weeks.. right after Xmas shut down.. The Altima is still in stage one.. working out some big bugs onthe line.. then it will hit stage 2 and 3 and start production this spring.. From what the cat said they may keep building the Gen 2 Fronty and Xterra in Canton and early 2014 bring out a new style.. He mentioned the core group of Xterra fans.. Said Nissan is paying attention to us. So I have heard from 2 people in the know this August they will move the X and one said A new fronty will not be out till early 2014... Ill keep everyone posted on the news I learn at the Smyrna plant :)

Don't listen to anyone below management/engineering level. By the time it gets down to the tech level, it's so distorted- kinda like playing the Telephone/Tell-A-Friend game in grade school.

When the Hardbody got discontinued and the Frontier began in 98, they had been drawing and building it for at least 2 years- I remember being 11 ('97) and my dad coming home with the engineer's renderings and letting me and my little sister color them. The same thing happened when the XTerra came out (launched April 1999), except we were "too cool to color" at that point. Initially, they were going to make the XTerra in Japan, but re-configured the assembly line in Smyrna to accommodate another body line.

All I'm saying, fellas, is don't get your hopes up too high. We are WAAAAAY too far out for any definite decisions/answers, and I'd hate to see any of you be dreaming about this vehicle that won't change for another product year or two.

We have heard a lot of the same news at the magazine as well. Except that we were told to expect the new Frontier in Fall of 2014 (maybe you'll see the production in early 2014?).

I'm still waiting to see if Nissan will produce their smaller trucks for the US market. I'd go for a nice little NP200 if it were to come over here. But if I could snag a QD32 powered X or Frontier, I'd get either one based on the drive train alone.

Was told all manufacturers are having a issue dealing with the 50mpg avg all car makers have to get to by 2020... Trucks.. Are hard to make work in that..

Actually, CAFE standards are for a 35 mpg fleet average in 2020.

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/GlobalWarming/story?id=4136951&page=1#.TugmXzCF_ug

That is much more doable, especially with the kind of fuel mileage that cars are getting these days. Nissan has an average domestic mpg of 34, and average import mpg of 30.1, and an average truck mpg of 23.5 (The truck category includes crossovers). Which means that Nissan isn't terribly far off of the 2020 standards, considering that there are almost equal parts imported, exported, and trucks. I have no doubt in my mind that Nissan won't even have a problem obtaining the 2020 CAFE standards. That number would be even more doable if diesels looked at so negatively here in the states, but that is a completely different story. I agree with Macland. Nissan does need to jump on the Direct injection/ Turbocharged train, but I imagine that they already have.

The NP200 comes with the 1.6 liter, 109 'lbs tq with 103 hp. Looks like a Subaru Brat.

That's the Dacia Logan, the right hand drive version of the NP200. You can also get it a 1.5 diesel in it. I want it now!

Latest I have heard..

The Xterra Gen 2 will continue to be built at the Canton plant (Moves AUG).. They will be stamping in Smyrna and building in MS.. till 2013
The latest Nissan Engineer I talked to said Nissan is up in arms about what to do with the Xterra.. They like that they are seeing more and more clubs popping up.. (nXm and goneMOAB)
Its the MPG game that makes it tricky.. They do understand the design is getting old too. From what I was told they do check in on these clubs to see the latest trends..
We all know at the nXm Nissan engineers were taking pix of mod'ed Xterras like crazy.. I know they took some Mod'ed Frontiers,Titans, and Xterras to a local off road park testing things too.

I still think think the Xterra is good to go for a Gen 3 in 2014

Haha, so if the standard is 35mpg than that means smaller engines, less, hp and torque? How will trailers be pulled in the future? By the horses that are suppose to ride in them lol

Oh and no offense but I would never buy that truck...it looks like a subi outback mixed with the tiny 90's frontis

I think the 35mpg standard is for an entire fleet's mpg average.
