Calmini did this in 2005 I think. If I remember right was the first year of the Gen 2s. They took it to Gone Moab. There should be pics somewhere.

I wish Nissan would get their head out of their ass and produce a v8 Xterra. I'd buy a new Xterra as my next vehicle if I could get a v8

It's not as simple as Nissan wanting to or not. It's probably 20% (if even that much) nissans desire to do it - they may or may not see a market. Would you be willing to spend near 40k on a new Xterra? How many other people would? Maybe a lot on these enthusiast forums but how many in the general public? They are Gavin a hard time selling them in great numbers as is.

A large portion of the formula is their CAFE number. Corporate Average Fuel Economy. For every 15mpg truck they sell they have to offset it somehow to get to the 24.1 (2011 standard).

The calculation really a harmonic mean not an arithmetic mean so the math is more complicated than and more so than I want to explain or you want to read on a forum that but you get the idea. There is plenty of info on the web about it. I work in diagnostics at an engine manufacturer so Feel free to PM me if you want some more literature.

Now if we're talking wish list - I want them to port over the SMALL cummins that they have in the fronty at the Chicago auto show last year. Almost as much tq as that 5.6, less weight, better fuel mileage. And a TURBO. w00t!

A diesel would be amazing.

I see then being closer to considering that then a gasoline - or diesel for that matter - v8. CAFE is only getting stricter.

But diesel isn't a cheap option by any means. The after treatment necessary to meet emission regulations are stupid expensive - it's not even necessarily the engine itself.

there is no market for a v8, or solid front axle for that matter. the only way that you will see one is if someone does it for the fun of it.

That's a no brainer. If I had a 2nd Gen, there would be a 5.6 under the hood.
x2. So in the meantime, I'll just work on cranking the boost

It's not much different for the Pathfinder. Canada only got the V8 in 2008 (they call come 4x4 only, as well as the X - Gen 1 had no 4cyl in Canada because 4x4)...
