So, a few of us ran Mount Antero http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=51 recently & were stopped by a snow drift on one of the last switchbacks. A few others of us decided that wasn't good enough and wanted another shot. So here it is. August 10, 2013. Meet at Gunsmoke Truck Stop in Johnson Village by 9am, leaving as soon as possible after that.

The one & only goal of this run is to drive as far as legally possible on Mount Antero and then hiking the rest of the way to the summit (14,269ft.). This means it will be a fast-paced run initially in order to reach the summit as soon as possible.

Why?

1. Thunderstorms develop early in the day at this altitude. We want to get up there & then started back down before they get fired up.
2. Pictures from the summit!!
3. It will make you cool.

After that, there are other trails in the area. I personally would like to run Hancock Pass from St. Elmo north-to-south & then run Tomichi Pass, also from north to south, running it all the way south to either near Monarch Pass or Sargents, both on Highway 50. From there, drive home.

I will be further south that weekend in the Rio Grande range. Otherwise, I would absolutely join. Have fun! I really want to do this run!

Can it be done with a stock Gen 1?

^^ Yes. It's not that hard but the high altitude means 4wd low will be appreciated. If you have a fear of heights, reconsider, because it's a narrow shelf road in many places.

Well crap, we have a conundrum. I've been out of town the last 2 weeks but was in contact with Xebra67 during that time. We (and a few others behind the scenes) decided this run would be better done in September because the fall colors are so great up there. Unfortunately I failed to post that info here in my own thread. We have not set an exact date yet. In the mean time I committed to another run over on tnx on the 10th. (Check there for details if anyone wants to come along. It's Sante Fe Peak/Saints John/Deer Creek.) Sorry for my failure to update this thread earlier.

I know this is too late, but It's the Time Out Corner for you, mister. :D:
