Tie rod boots cracked - replacements avail.?

Have seen, I think Summit Racing, where replacement dust boots are avail. for some cars w/o having to buy the whole tie rod end. My 2002 X has a couple of outer tie rod end boots cracked and wonder if anyone has tried the boot replacement and if so where did you buy them? Ends seem to be slack free but know a broken boot is just asking for trouble (lot of sand where I live). If a new tie rod end(s) are in my future it is not a big deal other than the expensive front end alignment.

It’s kind of hard to tell if a TRE is good while it’s on the truck. I’ve thought mine were ok until I took them off and compared them to new ones. Did ya take them off the truck to check them?

Any-who I would change them if my boot was compromised in any way.

I’ve always used MOOG TRE's from Summit but have been told recently that Raybestos Pro. Grade is better and will be trying them the next time I need to change them.

Hope that crap helps…

Think you are right. Looked under X again and found that both bottom ball joint dust boots are split/cracked also. looks like I have a bigger job than I thought!

Only one of them did I consider still "good" after 12 years
