so the idea of using universal coilovers has been thrown around on various sites however im going to actually qccomplish it and maybe do a how to.
so heres the basics. first id need a pair of un8versal coilover towers for a place like balistic fab which i wil order after the first. then i will measure and cut the towers to fit as i please of course while still driveable and havent cut yet. also ive decided to keep the stock arms for now. the hardest part i forsee is ordering tue coilovers howere i will be adding part numbers and links as i go. wish me luck.

I am doing some thing like this with my explorer, I am using my factory arms and made some upper mounts. For now I am using QA1 coilovers but will switch over to Fox when I get it dialed in. Here's some pics of my mounts.
Upper mount, I drill holes and mounting in the original strut mount.

Greg at PRG just released something similar for the 2nd gen X, that bolts into the stock upper mount and allows you to use universal coilovers. But I still thing a good hoop would be a better solution for those that are willing to cut and weld.

The only problem I see you may encounter is the stock UCA. I'm not sure there will be enough room for a coil over to fit within the UCA. I know titan arms would work. You may have to clearance the frame.

Like this to work with the stock arms. But if u are considering goin Titan swap in the future then u should just wait and build the shock hoops to fit Titan arms. There are plenty of DIY shock hoop kits out there.
But as far as the project, I would love to see it done!!
Our coil buckets really limit us to what we can run as well as the suppliers able to charge us a little more because of it.

so i have now come across a delima.nlast night browsing cl i found 2 sets of waggy axles one with 3.73 and the other 410 for about 700.
so the delima is to sas or universal coils or sas then later 4link front and rear with coilovers

Depends on if you want to spend the money now or later. Keep in mind, a SAS will set you back a couple G's.

yes it will cost a couple gs. as i will need new rims axles, trans case, steering box and leafs or coils and shocks.
however for the time being until i can get a divorced tcase i will just put the axles and steering on and keep it 2wd until i can find the right case and get new gears for it and maybe 2 cases for a doubler
