I just noticed this yesterday and don't really know where to begin to look for the cause. Any suggestions?

Sorry if this isn't the correct subforum for this.

is your X bodylifted? If so then definitely check your lines. If not then check around your fuel tank by the fuel sender, it is accessed from inside the cab so maybe that's a lead there. Otherwise have you transported any fuel canisters? I know it sounds dumb but that smell can linger for a long time.

Not yet, the body lift is going in on Saturday. Haven't transported any fuel either.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, we will see what we can figure out on Saturday.

make sure you check you lines (the return, and supply) in the engine bay... if they leak, they tend to drip on the exhaust (FIRE FIRE). Also your fuel tank vent can be clogged as well as your fuel vapor emissions box under the rear of the truck (I know that will emit a strong fuel odor if not functioning properly).

There's a rubber fuel line in front of the gas tank area that can rot out and leak...it will do it at first only under pressure (Engine on) and you may not smell the worst of it while driving, etc...just the residual when you stop.

Leave it running, and go under and look while the line is pressurized by the fuel pump....that's the best chance to catch it.

Wear goggles, in case it catches YOU.

ouch... if there is raw fuel going through your cats... they will turn cherry red hot and that is no bueno

I've got new spark plugs waiting to be put in. Judging by other things I've noticed on this car, the spark plugs are likely still factory originals. Hopefully that takes care of it.
