Roof Light Wiring

Has any body tried wiring roof lights without drilling through? I was thinking either routing through the door jam or down the windshield. I am just curious if anyone had any success with that.

That is where I have mine, as well is the CB cable on the other side. Has worked very well for the last ten years or so.

I ran my wires up the channel in the windshield. I put the wires in the channel and laid a bead of black silicone caulk on top. Pretty self explanatory but if you still want a picture let me know.

I ran mine up the edge of the windshield in some loom. Used some of those sticky pad things with opening for zip ties. Cheap and easy. Been there for a year no problems.

errrrrrr....You had to ask didn't you? The wiring I ran I had rated for 4 130w KC daylighters. I did the math to determine current draw, then went with the recommended gauge for that amount of current. I believe I used 2 30A relays for the daylighters, and had them on two switches. I also had wiring ran for the LEDS on the back of my roof rack, but that wire was fairly small. I think the main fuse I use is a 80A or something like that, and it is right off of the battery, before the fuse block.

I drilled a hole and ran the wiring down the A pillar. I did not need to drop the headliner either.

Ricel, helped me pick this sealed through port from West Marine. Sorry dont remember the part number.

But have a punch, pilot drill bit, step drill, little bit of paint, silicone, patience and some beer, and youll be fine.

Mine actually run all the way to the rear and are entering the boot that connects the hatch to the truck. I also have disconnects there so the rack can be taken off if need be. Let me know if you want them and I'll snag some pictures.

I drilled a hole thru the roof right under the windfairing and ran the wires across in between the headliner and roof and then the a-pillar.

^^^Got some stuff ran this same way.
With the new LED lighting, I may come up thru the front, but we'll see.

The ideas already mentioned on this thread pretty well cover the options for powering something on the roof. Which method are you looking to do? How much detail are you looking for on the wiring? Have you done wiring before? Help us help you.
