Raditor / therm issue?

Driving today stopped to get some gas and thermostat went straight up to HOT when i was in a idle or park position. put some coolant in was a little low started to drive again and it went to about a normal temp. came to another stop and boom straight up to HOT anyone have an idea or had this issue before? its an 00SE with 150k miles on it.

First guess would be thermostat or more air bubbles. Can you plug in a OBD scanner and check what the ECM temp sensor says? The dash and ECM each have their own sensors.

When you did the timing belt did you put in a new water pump??? If not I would take a lOng hard look at it as the problem. If it is worn to the extent. That is can not push enough coolant at idle, but will when the rpm's are up a little bit it could time for a new water pump.
