Question about interior carpet

I was wondering:

Would the interior carpet out of a 2004 X with an automatic work in a 2001 with a manual trans? I know the years shouldn't make any difference, but would the console and shifter boot in the manual truck cover the holes in the carpet out of an automatic trans vehicle? Anybody ever tried this particular swap?

YES, this is an attempt to save money and time. I was thinking about new carpet, but it's spendy, and then you have to pay for installation, or take a chance on flubbing the new carpet when you go to install it. Seems like a good choice would be a decent used carpet out of a junkyard Xterra, but manual tranny vehicles are pretty rare. I DID recently see a 2004 with an auto that had very nice carpet in it (all four factory floormats were still in the vehicle). Hence the question.

Should be just fine. Here's mine torn apart and you can see lots of body around the shifter.

OK, I got the used carpet. One small hole in it, but it's more like a cut than a wear hole. I think it was caused by the edge of the floor mat. Looks like I'll be able to stitch it up and you won't be able to tell it's there. Midway U-pull had a 50% off sale last weekend and I got all three sections for $15! It cleaned up real nice. Simple Green and a trip to the car wash took out all the stains. This week I got the old interior out of my Greenie (seats all out without breaking off any of those pesky rear seat bolts!) Next week, in with the new carpet and then the awesome leather seats that I scored a couple months ago.

@Prime, I know you said the console and shifter cover should cover all the cutouts in the carpet, but in the event it doesn't, could I swap the console from a 2002-2004 X into my '01? (Assuming I could find a later 5-speed console)

You'd have to swap the entire dash to do that. So no. You should be fine otherwise
