So I done a oil change 3 weeks ago and my oil light came on yesterday. I checked the oil was not registering on the dip stick (yes I was checking the right one). I added a quart and a half of oil and no change. So this morning after work I bought another quart of oil and added it is don't know where it is going. I have no visible leaks and no smoke in the exhaust oil filter is not leaking either. So any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh, and after I added oil this morning it throu a P0420 code I pulled over and cleared it and it has not came back yet.

P0420 is a catalytic converter code. If you're burning oil, this can cause gasket disintegration, which can foul up your cats.

Have you checked your head gasket area?

Could it be a bad pcv valve causing me to burn oil? A guy at work was saying that that could be the cause. He watched when I started my xterra and it was definitely burning oil.

Oil burn on start up is usually valve seals, rings, oil is getting into a cylinder(s) somehow. Pcv maybe I guess?

Look up www.blackstone-labs.com They'll test an oil sample for $25 and let you know if there's anything getting into it like coolant.
