My '04 Xterra

Hello XterraNation,
I am a native Oregonian. I just bought an '04 X back in April. So far I am having some fun with it. Doing some major work and fun work to it. Getting it to where it needs to be as far as maintenance. And I have done a couple of minor mods/adjustments to it.

I have removed the running boards. One was black and one was silver anyway.

Installed a new stereo receiver, a Kenwood DPX503BT. My X (nicknamed Xterradactyl) didn't have a receiver in it when I bought it and the brackets were gone. The seller said it was stolen but the brackets were missing and nothing else was broken. No wires were cut. The dash surround wasn't broken at all. So I personally doubt it was stolen. I found brackets at a U-Pull-It, and all is good.

I have also had to replace the water pump. While I was in that deep, I went ahead and replaced the timing belt, tensioner, cam/crank shaft seals, cooling hoses, thermostat and drive belts. Basically worked my way out with replacing maintenance items.

I also added some tie down hooks on my rack fabricated from the cargo hooks that are in the rear cargo area. Got some extras from a U-Pull-It yard. I used Riv-Nuts and stainless button screws for fastening. Painted them black. I haven't needed to use them yet but I am happy with them.

I have replaced the gauge cluster lights with LEDs. Sorry no pics on that. These are the LEDs I bought from Amazon. I had to use the stock bulb sockets but the LEDs work great and fit the sockets great. Just have to keep an eye on the +/-. I still need to replace the bulbs in the climate control cluster but it looks like I might have to take more of the dash apart to do those.

My latest mod is adding a garage door opener to my map light housing.

This is my daily driver at the moment so not getting too crazy with stuff. Making sure it will be dependable for taking camping, going offroad some, taking fishing or hunting. My starter went out the other day so I had to replace that. I still need to do some other maintenance to it like transmission fluid/filter change, differential oil change, transfer case oil change. Mostly because I have no clue how well the previous owners took care of it so if I do it, I know it has been done.

Eventually I would like to get a 2" lift on it and do all the other cool stuff and make it a true 4x4 or outlander vehicle. I am pretty new to offroading and 4x4 vehicles so love all of the info here in the forums. I am enjoying my new to me rig and look forward to making it what I want, even if it does take me awhile.
