Longer Buckles in Rear Hatch

So, I noticed that the rear hatch of the Xterra's, where the first aid kit is supposed to go, the buckles there are very tiny and childlike. And if you are like me, and keep your first aid kit underneath the drivers seat, you have no need for the tiny, childish buckles, and need strong, manly buckles for the entire deer carcass you're going to need to carry back to base camp.

So. A quick trip to the local hardware store, where I was frightened for my life and will never return again and a loss of $8, I got some new buckles. I do not recall the exact length of the buckles, for I was running from the store to my beloved Ivan. DISCLAIMER: Ivan is my X, not my partner. But if you are into that, you do you boo boo.

Here is my comparison of the puny, weak stock buckles, to the spartan-like, gobble of buckles I bought.IMAG0428.jpg

As you can tell, I can carry whole countries now that I have purchased these amazing ox beasts.

Once you have taken off the rear plastic of your rear door, look for these handy little fellows.IMAG0425.jpg

They look like little black tridents. Push the friend in the middle, (you may need to get a few friends or 16) and he should pop out. Now, push the two flaps that are still connected to the panel together, and push out. Then repeat for the rest of them. There are a total of four, two for each buckle, one for each side.

Now that you have sacrificed the innocent small buckles, and danced around them as they burned, you can now begin to put in the new buckles.

NOTE: A welding mask may be needed for the pure awesomeness light that will be emitted once the new buckles have sat on their new panel throne.

Now, get your handy kershaw blade, (or equivalent) and cut a little hole into one end of the buckle. Once there is a slight hole, FREAKING SHOVE that little friend you popped out of the trident earlier like so.IMAG0429.jpg

Now that you have made a sizable hole, slip that buddy back out, and grad onto the two pronged part of the trident. Push them together again, and FREAKING SHOVE them into that same hole. Once they have reached the other side, that one part of the buckle is done. Repeat that for ALL FOUR sides of the two buckles. Once all of them have the two pronged bolt into them, squeeze them together agian, and slip them back into the holes of the panel. Then put that lonely friend into the middle to complete the sandwich. THIS IS WHERE THE WELDING MASK IS NEEDED. LOOKING TOO LONG AT THE LIGHT WILL INDUCE BLINDNESS AND OR DIARRHEA.

Now in all seriousness, you now have about a foot to two feet of more space you can put a longer bag, or if you have a small passenger (i.e baby, puppy, or treasured jumper cables that just so happen to be 25 ft long and will not fit anywhere else in your vehicle, then THIS POST WAS MADE FOR YOU!)

My cellular device just happened to die as I was going to take a photo of the final look, so that will be up tomorrow.

Good day to you all wonderful people!
