Idler Pulley help.

Hey guys,

So I brought my X to the shop the other day to have it looked at about a misfire, which lead to nothing. I apparently have to bring it to Nissan, due to it being so insignificant the guys scanner can't track it down. Anyhow, I also had a slight whine too, which we diagnosed as an Idler pulley. He said it was the Idler up on top. I'm here on Rockauto.com looking at them I have Dayco Part# 89148 pulled up as what I think I need. Would anyone be able to help me out with a confirmation to this, or direct me to the right pulley if that is incorrect?

-Thanks.

P.S. - Sorry for the dumb question, I haven't messed around with the pulley's to much to know which is which. I also found out my timing belt was replaced right before I bought it at 100k so I have about 60k more miles before I have to worry about that, the shop was grilling me on that and it had me getting all anxious to find out, hah.

What belt is it for? A/C belt or power steering belt. There is two idlers at the top. If you would rather (have access to a press or large vice) swapping the bearing is much cheaper then the entire pulley.

The pulley's I'm seeing aren't to pricey, but no, I don't have access to a press right now. I think this weekend I'm just going to take the belts off and start checking them myself. I think it's the AC pulley so I'll start there.

Yeah I'd remove the a/c belt then start the engine to see if the noise is still there. Mine both went out around the same timeframe. Internally the pulleys use the same bearing. Though I guess wear could be influenced by belt tension and other factors.

My thinking is to get at the belts from underneath? Seems like more room maybe? Never pulled the belts before. My Chevy had tons of room under the hood I could sit inside of it while I worked, haha. This.....not so much.

Alternator is the only belt you can get to from under. The rest you loosen the corresponding idler pulley, and pull the belt from around the fan. Yes, they'll fit.
