Does anyone have a mock up of a Hummer Tire Carrier on a stock bumper, i just got ahold of one and need to figure out how im going to mount it to the X.

I have Wheel Studs sitting in my basement and im just going to cut the studs that are already on it then drill holes for those so the wheel can mount.

The only problem i am having is trying to figure out how to mount it so it dosent warp the rear bumper and is able to actully hold a tire without bending under load.

Looks like this:

Do you mean a stock rear bumper? Theres absolutely no way you could mount that to the stock sheetmetal bumper without it warping. However you could notch the plastic corner and make a plate that is bent at a 90 and bolt it to the frame. It would be flimsy but that would be the only way it could work at all.

If you had a tube rear bumper it would be a cake walk.

That's what I'm waffling on. Ether a plate to mount it to the frame or a full replacement bumper.

If I go with the full bumper obviously it will be fine. Just looking for suggestions

You could had re-enforcement strips on the back of that bumper.. But all the work you would be doing you could just buy a maxterra rear bumper

I could. Or just take it to RLC and see what he can do with it. I'm leaning to full replacement with the swing arm modified a little

I wish I would have kept my old rear bumper.. I would have gave it to James to work from

Its not that tough to build a rear bumper. Invest in a welder and some tube, it would cost about the same as a rear bumper but you could keep building with it later.

True that. I need a welder. For now I use my dads when I am home, but that's usually only for a day or two a couple times a year

A full replacement bumper is the way to go, a buddy has on on his Fronty with a 37 on it and it weighs a lot more than you think it should. Any kind of single bracket that only attaches to one side is not going to work in the long run. A rear bumper can be a really easy thing to fab up if you want it to be. Mine is as simple as you could ever emagine. No odd angles, brutally strong and tucked up out of the way. You can bend up some tubing, bend up some 3/8 plate to the shape that you want

But I have found that the more simple the design, the better it works in the long run.

Indeed mine is basically 2 chunks of 2x4 box tubing with a plate of 1/2" steel in the center so the liscense plate is recessed and also another 1/2" plate along the bottom for a ball and clevis points.

The ends are just cut and smacked with a hammer until the bend followed the body line and then a piece of 1/4" strip was welded down it. Its not pretty but I back into all kinds of things plus hook on to everything and trust me Im not nice to it.
