How To Foam Bed

Alright, so the reason for this bed mod is for the upcoming Bonaroo Music Festival in early June. If you don't know what the 'Roo is, its 60 bands, 4 days, 3 nights, and a whole lot of fun. ( and the greatest band that has ever arisen on this Earth, Mumford and Sons.)

Now, a few of my buddies and I are going to the 'Roo. Which means I have a little more than two months to make Ivan a very comfortable camping truck. My first mod was this bed.

Luckily, my grandmother got this foam bed insert thingy (brand new) and then complained about it being too soft. So, being the gentleman I am, I tossed her a twenty dollar bill, took the foam, and made a beeline for the door before she could change her mind.

This may be the simplest mod I've done, so I wont get into too much of details on how to do this mod.

1. Acquire a foam bed insert. Doesn't matter how thick, (mine was four inches and may be too much) but thin enough to be rolled up and stored efficiently.
2. Lay down your back seats, and throw the foam bed on top of them.
3. Mark where the wheel wells are, and how tall it is (I had to cut mine about 4 inches from the top as it was too long)
4. Get a sharp utensil (knife, scissors, saw, katana, chainsaw etc.)
5. Cut the foam away from the wheel well (I was heavy on the cutting, as I wanted room for drinks/cell phones/ anything else.)
6. Lay down on the finished product.

Now, you have a few choices of how you want to store this bed. I folded mine in half hot dog style, and then rolled it up like that. You can throw it in the cargo area like any normal person. Unfortunately, I have 2 12 inch subs, so It will NOT fit in the cargo area. Luckily for me though, my dad had a spare sleeping bag bag from his army days, and offered it up to me with a smile saying "Hey, its waterproof too."
SOON as I heard it was proof of the water, I knew it was going on my roof. BAM BAM BOOM BAM POW.

Nice! I did this too with a three inch foam mattress. I roll mine and bungee it together for travel and storage. Check out my build thread if you want to see it. It's a very simple mod that works really well.

I'm probably gonna do this at some point to, based on you and Mac.

I'm also thinking about going to Bonarroo with a few of my buddies too, haven't completely decided yet though.

Upstate, Laurens specifically. But since nobody knows where that is, about an hour south of Greenville. I think Bonnaroo would be about a 6hr drive from here.

If we decide to go ill definitely hit you up. It's something I've considered for a few years now, it's a lot of money, but a lot of bands for the money too. It sounds freaking awesome.

Oh right on, i've been to Greenville once upon a time ahaha. Im right outside of Myrtle Beach, so its about a 9 hour drive for me.

And honestly, it is very worth it. Nonstop playing, for a whole lot of bands (hopefully you like more than one type of music) , it'll definitely be a memorable experience.

If you pull your rear lower seat cushions. (They come off with pull latches) The cargo area will be perfectly flat like a bed. You can store the cushions up front. While your sleeping. They may fit in the rear footwell area and double as a pillow not sure. I usually use a air mattress as it spans the rear footwell and rests on the seat backs giving a tall guy plenty of room to sleep.

They do fit in the rear footwell perfectly, If the seats aren't too far back. And they can be used as pillows, but theyre lopsided and very tall compared to a pillow ahaha.

I'm 6 foot even, and I can fit perfectly in there.
