Engine removal: with or without tranny?

Hi, I'm new to this forum but wanted to get straight to it. Has anyone on here removed an Xterra engine before? Main question is:
Is it easier to try and remove the bolts around the tranny and remove engine alone or the whole engine plus tranny?

I replaced the engine in my second gen. Pulled the engine alone. I’d do it that way again if I were to do it again. No big deal unbolting the trans from the engine in the truck.
