So on the way to work yesterday I had 2 bolts come out of my ring gear. One busted off flush in the ring gear and the other pulled the threads out. The broken one i know how to fix(drill & tap it) the other im not so sure what the best way to fix it is. Heli coil, tap it up one size, or just stick the bolt in there slathered in good old jb weld..... Your suggestions please.

Heli coil would be my first preference; keeps everything the same. 2nd would be next size larger tap.

I would go ahead and replace the ring and pinion, there is no way I would ever consider using JB on any drive componants, And you will never know if you have other stress fracturers in the ring gear.

A now R/P for a dana 60 is not as expensive as a replacement for any of the Nissan ones. And I would never be able to trust that Ring ever again.

I think it was a loctite issue I pulled and used red gel loctite on all the bolts instead of blue. I actually got both holes redrilled and tapped to 1/2"x20 thread and new bolts in. The r&p for a d60 is still plenty expensive when it doesnt take alot of effort to drill and tap. Either way there was no damage to the ring or pinion teeth which is what I was really worried about. Im leaving the cover off tonight to give the loctite plenty of time to set then fill with fresh oil tomorrow. The bolts were set back to factory specs at 37ftlbs of torque.

Ive used jb weld before to fill and redrill holes for mounts with more direct torque on them thats why I wondered. It was the being drowned in hot gear oil I was worried about not neccesarily the strength.
