I'm changing out my timing belt but having a problem removing the crank pulley. I've got the bolt off but can't slide the pulley off. What have you done or what tool did any of you use to get this off? Thanks.

Harmonic balancer puller. There are two holes in the pulley face that are m6x1; you'll need bolts of about 60mm to thread them.

The only thing a jaw puller will be good for is chipping the pulley.

Thanks. I did get it off finally. I had a puller but only with standard thread bolts. Had to run to Ace and pick some metric bolts.

Got the timing belt changed out along with the water pump andtensioner. With a 160k the belt didn't look bad at all. The tensioner on the other hand would squeal when I turned it by hand. I was getting some noise up front when the engine was running so I'm sure this is where it was coming from. Should have this finished tomorrow.

Do have one more question. When I lined up the timing mark on the LH side gear I noticed the RH side was about a half tooth off. Should it be this way?

I remember not feeling the warm and fuzzy with the marks on the timing belt but the factory service manual gave the number of belt teeth between the camshafts. You may want to look it up for yourself. I think I took pics of the correct position, let me see if I can dig them up.

Ok... the pictures helped me to piece it all together again. I think that my first attempt was a tooth off and once I counted the teeth between camshaft pulleys and reset everything, it looked like this:

The key is to have the correct number of teeth between the dimples on the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys. If you have that right, the camshaft pulley alignment marks on the belt should align with the dimples (little shiny spots on the black metal cover behind the pulleys) on the rear timing belt cover.

I got that. This was before I took the old belt off after alinging the dimples. The RH was off a half tooth compared to the crankshaft and LH campulley. I have a Nissan service manuel. A very good book to have. I have everything ready to put back to together today. Thanks for the pics.

I should have stated this was before removing the old belt. Sorry for the confusion.
