Bump stop gap

Just making sure I understand. Even with aftermarket upper control arms, there still needs to be at least one half inch gap from the stock bump stops to the control arm? I'm pretty sure that's what I've understood from everything I've read. I'm just asking for clarification.

at least. yes. correct. As the wheel travels down that gap will close. When the upper a-arm makes contact with the bump stop is the end of your suspension travel. So if you set this gap small to none your wheel travel in the down direction is compromised and your ride quality diminishes. You get very abrupt contact between the control arm and bump stop on very calm terrain.

Besides the wheel travel issues, I believe it is an alignment thing. I did buy ultra low profile bump stops. But I think I've decided not to install them. After seeing what my CV angles look like at full droop, I think that's as low as I want to go. I'm afraid that If the bump stops were any smaller breaking CVs might become routine.
