Bad Alternator?

The other day I was out wheeling in a decent amount of mud and water but everything was running fine until last night I had been on the road about ten minutes and my A/T, Oil Temp, BRAKE, and Battery dash lights all came on. I researched and saw some info about older Pathys saying these lights indicate the alternator is going bad. Could I have fried it the other day? Il run it to Autozone and have them check it but if it is bad what are my options as far as a replacement?

Replace it....not much you can do for a fried alternator for the X.....The Xterra alternators hates the mud/water and since its low mount, its much more prone to bad alternators if you're the type that likes to dunk in water/mud.

Hey, i'm an alternator pro! Anymore as soon as the battery and brake light comes on together i call and order a new one to swap out my lifetime warranty one. The oil pressure light should go off as soon as things dry out. If its been cold (like freezing temps outside) be mindful because things tend to freeze. My e-brake and driveshaft froze up on me at the Shocker Run. I ended up smacking the DS with a boot and knocking it enough to have the ice just go away.

A trick that i have just been taught is to spray the alternator with silicone spray before going out and possibly getting into some water. Simple, i know! So far i've been good with using the Silicon and keeping the new alternator clean!

I have now learned to keep an extra one in the truck when going out and getting my baby muddy. So if you have the cash and don't need the core charge back i would say keep the bad one and see if anyone around you can repair it. A friend of a friend around me repairs them for like $50-60 bucks.

Thanks for all the good info peeps. The x died on me today so il be replacing it as soon as I can. What do you reccomend buying one from 4x4parts or trying to find a rebuilt one or what?

Pulled my alternator Sunday and took it to Autozone and swapped it for a Nissan rebuilt alternator for $150 that came with a lifetime warranty so if I mess this one up Il be able to get it replaced no charge. Swapping the alternators was very easy only took about an hour and the truck has been running very well all week.
