Anyone put a 2002 ECM into a 2001?

I compared all the pin outs in both ECMs as listed in the FSMs and they are identical other than the one pin for the electric cooling fan I mentioned in my other post doesn't exist on the 2002 ECM.

If I put in an S/C radiator to maybe make up a little cooling loss, (although I'm not sure I need the e-fan anyways) then I could pull the e-fan, get more room for my winch, and maybe gain the 10 hp that the 2002s got over the 2001s because of what I've heard was just better programming in the ECM.

Am I out to lunch? Anyone close to Langley BC with a 2002 ECM I could try?

I haven't compared the '03 or '04 ECMs to '01 because I've read that the 2001-2002 engines are compatible with each other and there were some changes after that.

Seems like a cheap 10 hp...if it works

Does the harness have a wire to the new pin if you swap UCM?

If its all to LOOSE the pin, just pulling the wire FROM the fan would do the same thing...so, I'm not understanding your plan?

As I said above, will i gain 10 hp(horsepower) by plugging in a 2002s ECM into my 2001 Xterra? Losing the e-fan would be an added bonus.

I've read the increase in power was from better programming introduced in 2002.

Has anyone tried this?

There was 10 hp from the different exhaust/header...not sure about the ECM being critical to that?
