3rd year running I will be setting up the off road camping trips to GWNF from August to April once a month from Friday evening to Sunday morning. My crew is up to about 26 people with Xterra's, Jeeps and Pickups. This will be the first year opening up the invitations to VAXC members. Typically an evite is sent out to gauge majority attendance and to begin setting up meetup times, camping spot choices and routes. Rendezvous is always the Sheets in Harrisonburg VA for last minute fuel ups and gathering. We name out camp sites typically after something stupid that happened at the site. All other new spots we like are marked as P and a number for future dates. At this point we have these sites marked and tested as good sites:

River Dance
The Virgin
Standard 9
The Range
You NoMe
Trailer Park
Mushroom Mountain
P1-P5 sites left to be established

Due to some family matters for myself coming in January and the extra work I have to do on the weekends, I have decided to try and call out the predicted dates and inform everyone that my season will be cut short with December being the last trip. I am however happy to help organize and direct others to enjoy the season and trails in any way I can. The camping season is scheduled as follows:

August 16th - Camper Party / Pre-WENT Party_Lake Anna VA
September 23-28 - WENT_Tennessee
October 17-19 - GWNF
November 14-16 - GWNF
December 12-14 - GWNF

The local trips typically consist of meeting Friday after work at Sheetz and leftovers coming in later if need be. (Thats why we name out sites so we when we lay out the schedule, you know where to go if 1st or 2nd choices are taken) It is primitive camping, but the earlier months sometimes bring in more folks. Another reason we go in Friday nights so we can stake the site. Drink and camp fire it up Friday night. Wheel the trails and scout out other sites on Saturday. BIG dinner party and drinking Saturday night. Then pack up and homebound Sunday morning.

This in my opinion my escape from city life, cell phones and LIFE to enjoy the real LIFE. Every 30 days is tough on the schedule but I have personally found making it happen is a reward in itself. My crew may be up to 26 people but at most we have ever had at one time was 15 people with 9 trucks. Some return and some sell there gear. in the end you build a bond with the folks that appreciate the experience.

Let me know if you want to be put on the EVITE list by sending me your email address.
