205 Regear Question

So. I have a brand new m205 sitting in my garage. Zero miles. It needs to be regeared. My original plan was to buy the ARB and have it all done at once. But budget won't allow that at this juncture. So it's just a regear.

Keeping that in mind that I'll be reusing the same carrier, and everything is literally brand new...

Do I need a full "master install kit" or can I just get a pinion bearing, crush sleeve, and shims?

Gotta have it all to reset the position of the carrier to get your pattern right. Use the old bearings to make set-up bearings by grinding them out till they slip fit into the carrier.

To put your mind at ease with the ARB... I have one, and it was the biggest waste of money I’ve put into the x. I can barely ever use it. Half the time I do, I just break a cv. I would not do that again.

Exactly why I opted not too. However, It was brought to my attention that the ARB comes with a stronger carrier than stock M205. That, I like. But, for 1k (locker) plus 6oo (OBA) I passed on that. Maybe putting that money towards a winch is money better spent?

Only possible issue I found for not having a locker is the Rubicon trail run I tagged along in this year requires one. Maybe I will sneak by next year since they didn't do a visual inspection.
