hey guys/gals,

So my xterra (02 4x4 w/190,000 miles) decided to crap out on me. I started it and drove it for bout 5 mins before the engine just shut off.

So now it cranks but does not turn over. Batteries new, crank sensor is good cause we tested it, fuel pump is good cause we can hear it when we turn the key to on position, and the distributor wasn’t getting any power or spark. I put a new full distributor in yesterday an it still doesn’t crank over. I can smell fuel tho. Spray starter fluid in the intake an no start. The rotor in the distributer cap rotates so I know my timing belt is good.

Whacha guys think cause I’m at a lost now, anyone else had this problem
????

oh wow this one's a tough one. i was gonna gonna say for sure timing belt until i saw you bring it up.

id say your best bet is to back trace the ignition wiring with a test light or volt meter to help you find where the spark went. also check the fuses under the the steering wheel.

Check a couple of the spark plugs wires to make sure there's electricity flowing when you do crank it. If a they seem to be putting out a spark then jump to spraying some accelerant like carb cleaner, gas or brake cleaner into the intake manifold. If it acts as if it wants to run then it's a fuel problem. Make sure you definitely verify both before continuing
