Trans boot that covers shifter opening in top of transmission is falling apart and needs to be replaced. Looking for advice on replacing. Top of stick appears too wide for hole and bottom of shifter has the big ball at the end. Any advice would be appreciated.

Should be able to screw the shift knob off and pull the boot off afterwards.

It's actually the boot that is under the decorative boot. The one that connect directly to the top of the transmission.

    All set now!

It's the boot found in this picture below from SlvrGen1_X's clutch replacement posting. He's lifting it away from the shifter entrance hole. I'm posting this up in case someone else needs to replace this part.

If the boot is new it will stretch over the shifter, but you need to take your time and use something to help lube the shaft. I had some armor all tire protectant handy, so I used that.

Nissan part# for the boot is 32862-3S500. I found a new one on E-bay for $15 shipped. FSM shows some special clamps used to affix to trans, but I ended up using some zip ties.
