Z1 Offroad Sold a Service it Can't Provide, and Wouldn't Refund Me Until I Went Public

For what it’s worth, this is the only other reference I’ve found of this issue on a later model VQ40: https://www.clubfrontier.org/threads/uprev-will-not-switch-maps.317721/ It seems like there’s a way to do it, but it’s a matter of getting the right person to do it. (The guy mentioned in that...

Humming with very slight vibration at Highway speeds

Have you done the front bearings? I have a whole thread here and had videos and everything of something similar I was convinced was the rear diff, but was actually the front passenger hub/bearing. I checked it for play and it didn’t have any until after the noise got louder.

Z1 Offroad Sold a Service it Can't Provide, and Wouldn't Refund Me Until I Went Public

Received a call from Z1 within a few minutes of them seeing me tag them on Instagram. Refund is on the way. Updated the title to reflect that. I’m still angry it had to come to that point. If I didn’t have Instagram I don’t think I’d have a refund yet.

Z1 Offroad Sold a Service it Can't Provide, and Wouldn't Refund Me Until I Went Public

In the interest of clarity, I am going to skip straight to factual statements: In October 2023, I emailed Z1 Offroad to explicitly ask if their UpRev tune would work with my 2015 Xterra. They requested my VIN, then "confirmed" it would work before I made my purchase. This is in writing. As it...

    The Dumb Question Thread

I’m just annoyed at the timing. I have a rigs and coffee + trail ride I’m supposed to be hosting Saturday morning and I’m annoyed at how much $$ I’ve had to continually dump into this set over the course of weeks. Holding on to it until I know the new stuff isn’t going to blow up. Once all the...

    The Dumb Question Thread

No play anywhere. With the scope right under the CV on the diff and right under the pinion there was no difference in sound. Honestly about to just put my stock stuff back in and learn the lesson of not messing with things that are working fine.

    The Dumb Question Thread

I have a mechanic stethoscope so tonight I’ll get it up in the air and see if I can listen for the exact spot it’s loudest.

    The Dumb Question Thread

Think that’s what it is? That’s what I would guess but I’m new to anything inside a diff.

    The Dumb Question Thread

Also if it’s the bearings in the front diff, is it easier/cheaper to replace them or to just take the gears from this R180 and throw them in my other one? I’ve been looking for write ups on regearing the front but it seems everybody just finds a whole new front diff.

    The Dumb Question Thread

When recording this I thought it was my brand new wheel hub, but heard it on the other side too and realized it’s the front diff. Anybody have a quick diagnosis? Both wheels off the ground. View: https://youtube.com/shorts/f1fqRH_FKgA?si=h7xRo4En9Nn7DTAd

Noise from rear after installing M226

Update. I saw a picture of somebody else’s Ballistic Fab cover and it looked like their fill plug was about 3/4” higher than mine. It wasn’t the high fill option – that’s way higher. While I did jack the rear up slightly to fill the first time, this time I put front tires out of the garage and...

2nd Gen - For Sale Dobinson IMS Extended Travel +110 springs, brand new, $1k obo

Fully assembled, brand-new never installed set of Dobinsons 2-2.5" Extended Travel IMS coilovers with C45-254R red coils. These are what Z1 calls the “+110” coils. I ordered these directly from Dobinsons USA on March 12 after emailing back and forth with them, and thanks to a misunderstanding I...

Noise from rear after installing M226

Fluid looked good. I’ll check play in the morning. Also got it up on jack stands and up to 25mph no noise. Definitely just under load. When I hooked up the front driveshaft to the diff I noted the yellow paint mark on the flange and matched that to the yellow on my driveshaft. It was at that...

Noise from rear after installing M226

No change doing hard left or right turns. Only above about 20mph and only when accelerating or braking. Coasting the noise goes away. The audio isn’t great due to wind noise and road debris, but you can kinda hear it I think around the 0:30 mark in this video. View...

Noise from rear after installing M226

I was hoping the noise not being there at the same speed but coasting would mean it’s not that. I’ll swerve around on the way home to see if it changes when I shift left or right.

Noise from rear after installing M226

It was out of a running 2008 manual S with 196k. The frame had bad rust and something had eaten the wiring harness, so the guy used it as a donor engine for a better body then parted out the rest. Axle had some surface rust and the dust shields were rusted to almost nothing, but that’s not...

Noise from rear after installing M226

M226 install went fine into my 2015 S but I noticed that at about any speed, there’s a low-pitched warbling noise coming from the rear. It’s very hard to explain but sometimes when you put just one rear window down and get that pulsating low frequency - kind of like that. I’m fairly sure I...

    The Dumb Question Thread

Yeah if I’d realized that I’d have probably done the diaper skid instead of the cover. Oh well.

    The Dumb Question Thread

Is it normal for the drain plug to stick down so low on the M226? It’s torqued to spec and from an 08 (though maybe I should check the 08 FSM just to be sure). On my C200 it was completely recessed and protected. And was also longer.

What have you done for your X?

M226 is in. Swapping the front diff tomorrow if I’m able to move.
