Well i don't really like roof lights to stick up too high, so i wanted them mounted as low as possible. Plus the light bar i made is mounted to the existing air dam hole which makes it easy to mount up. I was originally going to leave the wind fairing off but i didn't like the gap between the light bar and the roof line so i just modified it a bit.
I watched a lot of Xterra videos from middle eastern nations today and almost got used to seeing bald X's. For some reason theirs don't have racks on them. Maybe they think ours look strange WITH racks.
Finally took some pics today. the rack is redlined, the rack feet and all other plastic parts are painted with rust oleum trim and bumper paint. I sprayed everything with duplicator adhesion promoter before paint and it has all come out really well so far. Here are some pics
Thats all for now, still have to wait for some more money to get 2 more lights for the roof, and i need to find a spot for my rigid duallys, i just didn't like them in between my round lights. I definitely still want to keep them on the front though…any suggestions?
Next to come will hopefully be hid projector headlights!
i considered that…i just hate to kind of waste the light of the duallys in the rear. Plus my wiring is already all set up for them being in the from, but i am still considering thatr. it'd certainly make backing up at night a lot easier.
Go get some Sylvania SilverStar Ultras. They are the brightest whitest halogens you can get. They make a big difference over the common every day bulb.
COPY AND PASTE COMPLETE!
hehe....there, now you have it twice....plus I get the added bonus of subscribing to your build thread. EVERYBODY WINS!
And btw....reverse lights for the win. Don't think of the light being wasted on the rear of the truck, thing about being able to see that big tree you almost backed into.
Yes! the box is nice. heres a pic of them installed, can't really tell too big of a difference now, they do look more white than my dim tan/brown lights i had before. I will have to wait until night to see if they were worth the 60 dollars!
Well i just celebrated my 19th birthday saturday, and i now have a decent amount of parts beginning to pile up…TRS d2S projectors for a projector retrofit (still waiting on the HIDs, shrouds, relay etc.), 2 more 5" pro comp spot lights, and most importantly, the rear tire carrier project is underway. Ive gathered all the parts for it now, just a matter of welding it all together now. The main piece is built from 3/16" steel, the mounts will be 1/2" or 3/8" plate with 1" shackle mounts. The swing arm is 3x2" 1/4" wall square tubing with 2x2 1/4" wall square tubing for the top part of the swing arm. I have a few interesting ideas I'm going to try to implement into the tire carrier as well. I plan on doing a write up after I'm done with the tire carrier too. Stay tuned….
went on a bit of a spree this weekend at the truck show and bought some parts. got a stinger style hoop for the tire carrier, not sure how I'm going to use it yet, also got a hi lift jack, d-ring shackles, K@N FIPK, and some gussets for my tire carrier build. maybe some more stuff tomorrow too, hopefully will be getting some of this stuff installed this week, also still need to do my projector retrofit. pics to come soon!
just some pics from my trip this weekend, went to Ocean City, MD and Assateague Island this weekend. both are pretty cool places, Assateague island was really somethin though, the wild horses are fascinating. they also have an annual permit you can buy that gives you access to offroading on the beach, at 100 dollars though I couldn't justify it for the weekend. here are some pics.

wild horses at Assateague
that's all for the trip, didnt take too many pics. currently still planning/beginning to fab a rear tire carrier, will be done in 2 weeks, then just to wire up my roof lights and do a few other things!
starting my rear bumper this weekend, and on a side note my xterra made the website for the 4wheeljamboree nationals truck show I went to 2 weeks ago. I thought it was pretty cool, and as usual a lot of really cool trucks and vendors there. http://www.4wheeljamboree.com/media-gallery/260
main part of rear bumper and tire carrier is complete, now just shackle mounts, hitch and swing arm.
so far I'm really happy with how it is coming out, the angles are all lined up perfectly and the gaps all look good. I will post my exact measurements later if anyone else wants to use them for future reference.
finally wired up my roof lights. will post a pic tomorrow of everything all lit up. also hopefully I will be finishing up my bumper build this weekend, maybe even tomorrow night.
good and bad day today for my x, realized I won't have my swing arm done by the time I leave for school, but I did get the projector retrofit done. a little upset about the tire carrier but ill finish it up one of the weekends I come home.
so for now the tire carrier is to be continued.....
