A 2015 with the plastic engine cover? I thought they stopped putting those on around 2010.
It wasn’t an option for 2015. So I bought the hardware and the cover and made it an option.
I would have done the same, without it there you can clearly tell somethings missing.

Interesting. Why did Nissan discontinue the plastic engine cover and why are you folks choosing to add them?

P.S. Love the colour and the general looks of your X man! Even the license plate is hot.
....I need to do some headlight restoration on my car. So I may buff some of the scratches out of my Xterra lights when I do that......
I used a Meguiar headlight restoration kit on the X earlier this year. The results were quite satisfactory though the original condition of the headlamps was not that bad.
Instead of using the provided headlight finish, I painted the headlights with a long varnish. Specifically, I used mineral spirits diluted Spar Urethane with a little bit of Boiled Linseed Oil added. Still early days but seems to work well.
Why?
Oh yeah. Good on ya for checking that your headlamps were not blinding on-coming drivers. LED headlight blinding is being all too frequent these days.
- The headlight finish provided by Maguire is supposed to last one year.
- A fellow over on theNewX.org site who claimed to have done headlight professionally recommended varnishing the headlamps.
- Spar urethane exhibits some of the best outdoor results of varnishes tested by a serious canoer in Maine. I own an original canvas-covered, cedar-ribbed Prospector manufactured by the Chestnut Canoe company and currently live in one of the sunniest, hottest area in Canada.
- Miniwax Spar Urethane has Tung oil in it. Adding BLO 'lengthens' the varnish and makes it more resistant to chipping and shattering.
Thanks. The engine is clean now. Gets dirt when it needs to. Gets cleaned right after I’m done.
Trying to make the rest of us feel bad? -hehe-
Man, if you plan on dying soon or taking up city-driven low riders as a hobby, let me know, I will buy your X. Will gladly pay a premium for it too.
Back when I owned a Cherokee, I had to replace those wheel seals every few years. Wasn’t a big deal on that rig. Doubt it’ll involve much drama on the Xterra. I took it down to the do-it-yourself car wash and power washed the rear end. I’m going to throw a coat of paint back there to keep the surface rust at bay and watch it. As long as I don’t have oil on my wheel or the brakes, and the level in the diff stays full, I’ll leave it alone.
My brother blew that seal on his Frontier and I remember him saying he noticed because it got all over the brakes, yours doesn't look that wet so you might be fine.
I really like those recovery points!I wasn’t satisfied with the recovery hook provided by Nissan. And right now, a new bumper just isn’t on the docket; I have far too many other interests that suck my money away from me.
However, a great alternative comes from Habitat Offroad. I purchased the kit that includes the shackles. Installation was really simple, but I made a YouTube video to go over it.

Here is a comparison between the OEM recovery hook and the Habitat Offroad recovery point.

Of course my intention isn’t to keep the shackles on all the time. I took them off after the poser pics and put them in the drug smuggling compartment in the cargo area with my recovery strap and other necessities. This is a much better option for my application.
I really like those recovery points!
I think the 5x10-6x12 are the perfect all around trailers. I have an odd ball Dad bought in the 90s that's been one of the best little trailers we've ever had. 5.5x11.... unusual by all accounts but it's everyone's favorite trailer.Been burning my candle at both ends for the last month. Between taking care of insurance issues to get the house fixed after the wildfire, working a buttload of hours, and this incredible heat wave we have been having, I’ve had to put Xterra plans on hold a bit.
However, I got tired of begging, borrowing, and renting trailers to use for all the crap involved with everything I’ve been involved in, so I finally broke down and bought a lil something the Xterra has no problems towing. Spent some time this week getting a few D-rings installed on it so I can finally get the siding for my shed to the house safely. The X looks good with that 5x10 hooked up to it.

I feel like the 5x10 is the perfect size for this rig, at least for me. I originally wanted a 5x8, but I’m glad I got the extra 2’ with this one instead. It tracks almost perfectly with the Xterra, and I’ve even taken it through a drive thru without curbing it.
I don't know how people get by without a trailer, I really don't...
